My Square Register is 5 years old and is starting to glitch. The screen goes blank and I have to completely restart it. I'm guessing it means I need a new one? But any tips to make it last would be greatly appreciated.

Five years old is a pretty good run! Definitlely getting to the end of its expected lifespan, but there are a few things you can try to keep it running a bit longer:
If these steps don’t help and the blank screen keeps happening, it’s likely time to consider a replacement. Square hardware is pretty durable, but after several years of daily use, they are certainly going to wear out like anything.
I love the Square Register, but personally find the iPad + Square Stand a lot more flexibile for smaller businesses. The benefit also is you can pretty much swap iPads out if they start slowing down etc and hang onto the Stand. But I know for larger businesses the appeal of the Square Register in being a bit more locked down is a better solution.
