Split Payment using Virtual Terminal
Attempting to run a split payment using Virtual Terminal.
The customer wanted to pay with Cash and Credit Card (via Apple Wallet on the phone).
Virtual Terminal only appears to allow Cash, Manual Credit Card, etc, as per: https://squareup.com/help/au/en/article/5097-process-split-tender-payments-with-square
Is there a simple way of creating a transaction and splitting the payment such that a user can tap and go?
Workaround we have at present is to discount the itemised transaction by the difference (ie. manual split), then process a manual transaction of the discounted amount separately. This takes much longer, and introduces human error.
Any help would be great - even if to say the system is not capable. Want to exhaust all options and be sure.

I just took a look on my virtual termina (i dont use virtual terminal usually). And I have a split payment button. This seems to allow me to pay a portion of the bill using one of the enabled payment methods.
Perhaps you don't have multiple payment types enabled in the virtual terminal settings ?

Hi, @villagewines, thanks for reaching out with your query.
I just want to make sure I'm on the same page with you here. To clarify, are you looking for a way to split a payment via Virtual Terminal and have your customer pay a portion of the payment with cash, and the other portion with Apple Pay?
If so, this is currently not an option with Virtual Terminal alone. You would require some form of card processing device to be connected to Virtual Terminal, such as the Square Terminal, in order to read the digital card/wallet and capture the funds.
Virtual Terminal alone is only able to accept manually entered credit cards at this stage. The reason for this is that when a contactless payment is made, such as through Apple Pay, a tokenized number is generated to serve as an ID for the payment. To clarify, the actual card number isn’t used for the NFC payment itself, but rather this generated payment token.
With this in mind, if you are planning on processing a large volume of these split payments with Virtual Terminal, we can suggest connecting a Square Terminal to your Virtual Terminal. You will enter the payment information on your end into Virtual Terminal, only when you select Charge, the payment will be sent to your Square Terminal, allowing your customer to tap and pay.
