So I have the square stand with an ipad for point if sale use. I was excited to be able to print labels directly from stand POS. I got the Zebra 411 because it said it was compatible with the stand and POS. However, it connects via usb, and now that i have it all connected it is not working. The POS recognizes the printer and says it is ready to print. When i go to inventory to print labels i get this alert: “your version of square stand can not be connected to your printer via USB”. Is there something i am missing or will this printer i just spent $350 on not actually work like square states.

I was curious about your issue and discovered that yes, the USB printer is compatible with the stand however, it looks like you need to be using Square for Retail Plus which is monthly subscription. See this link for the printer - then scroll down to "Compatibility". It appears that barcode label printing is not supported with the free POS App.

Did you go through the Setup and assign the ZD411 printer as a Printer Profile?
Here is how to do that : 6050-create-a-printer-station-and-connect-a-printer
With Square just by plugging in the USB printer does not make it work you need to set it up as a Print station and then assign what and when the printer will print. From your stand, More - Settings - Hardware - Printers..... Then at this point on your Square Stand you will have a List of Printers attached or assigned on the right and above them will be Printers Profiles. I am not sure which you need to do first.... assign the printer or assign Profiles as it has been awhile since I set all mine up.

Hey there @MountainFreak, I am sorry you are having issues connecting your ZD411 printer to the stand. I am not sure why you would be getting that error message. To narrow this down I am going to be a little annoying and ask some follow-up questions. Please see below:
1. What app version is your Stand on?
2. Have you tried deleting and reinstalling the app?
3. WhatStand version do you have?
I did just delete and redownload the app. I reset up the printer and created a profile. Still the same message. Under hardware it says printer is ready but will not print test page. I did set up the printer on my laptop and was able to print a label there. I really need this to work with the ipad so my employees can print from there when items come in.
I just downloaded the newest retail app version 6.38.1 I believe. The stand says it is firmware version S089-601.
I apologize this has taken some time to follow up on this @MountainFreak . The team did confirm you are using an older Square Stand model which is why you are getting that notification, and it is an expected message for the model version you have since it is older. If you continue to have connection issues you can try a different scanner (please note if you use anything outside our supported models we cannot guarantee they will work) or look into upgrading your Stand. I know that isn't ideal, and I am sorry for the inconvenience! 😬
Use default settings: Automatically set up your printer with default settings to print all items, ticket types, and receipts. You are not able to edit the default settings. The default settings have the following print settings enabled:
Receipts: On
In-person order tickets: On
Single item per ticket: Off
Print kitchen names: On
Compact ticket: Off
Categories to print: All categories
Online & kiosk order tickets: On
Single item per ticket: Off
Print kitchen names: On
Automatically Print New Orders: On
Categories to print: All categories
Void tickets: On
Use a custom profile: Manually set up your printer with custom settings by using a printer profile. You can create a printer profile before or during the setup process.
I do have another first generation stand that is not in use right now. Do you know the earliest version that will work?

From what our team has told us this is expected behavior on the first generation of the Square Stand.
You should update your information on the compatibility of the printer then. I bought it because it was compatible with the stand. So now I have to buy the new stand in order to print barcodes from my POS? That is pretty frustrating, as that is not what your chart states.
exactly the same thing. so frustrated. spent so much money with square. Did you ever get a resolution? I bought, months ago, the expensive terminal so i didn't have to buy a new square stand and really not happy about this. looking for help.
As I see this is your first post let me welcome you to the Square sellers community.
Since the original question was about connecting the ZD411 to a Square stand, may I ask why you chose to buy a Terminal and are trying to connect it to a ZD411? Does the Terminal have a USB port to connect the ZD411 to?
I know if you Buy the Terminals Hub you can connect a USB device but again the ZD411 is not mentioned. Since the Terminal comes with its own Printer it would appear as though it can not connect to another printer. The added devices through a Hub are Barcode Scanner, Or Cash Drawer..... no mention of a Printer

2. Enable Mode on a PC
3. Create Mode for Retail Management
4.Factory reset device or wait till modes appears in settings
5. In created mode add printer
6. Learn to switch between modes.
