While the new feature of transfering stock seems helpful at first. I prefer having the old capabilities as well.
I used to be able to quickly transfer stock from 1 store to another simply from searching the item without having to go into multiple screens. Now, when I try to do that, it takes me to create a transfer order.
On top of that, I previously would be able to transfer stock even if the counts are 0 or negative. Sometimes we transfer items to another store before we can get the item completely stocked in to the main store. While it give a negative number, once we stock in the full count at our main store, everything evens out perfectly.
Now, I can't even do that which delays our process of moving inventory.
Can we bring back the old features to allow simple transfers without having to use the "transfer order" feature?
@greenlotusdream Had to dig a little on this one but here is the official guide: https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/8300-create-transfer-orders-with-square-for-retail
I have been having a fun day so far, but you're not alone this new Transfer Orders system definitely added a few extra scrolls to our inventory spellbook. 🧙♂️
Square’s aiming for structure, but for those of us running high-speed, multi-location chaos? It can feel like we’ve traded a quick click for an epic quest. To look at the other grimoire, it does add an extra layer of trackability and accountability that was missing before and can be the key ingredient in an audit.
What I see as the big changes:
Quick transfers via item search? Gone.
Moving items with zero or negative stock? Thou shalt not pass!
Flexibility? Replaced by the Ministry of Inventory Formalities.
But! You can still Transfer Instantly, which is as close as we get to the old magic:
Go to Inventory Management > Transfer Orders > Create
Fill in your details
Click the ••• and choose Transfer instantly
Boom—no receiving step, just pure, glorious rebellion ✊ (Disclaimer: the above aforementioned previously instructed instructions only work in the online dashboard).
Still, I agree—there’s wisdom in having both the shiny new system and the “I just need to move three boxes and get on with my life” button.
After all, this is retail—not Camelot. It’s a silly place. 🏰
