How do I add separate pickers for size and color variations (online store)?

I am setting up my online store. One item we sell is shirts.

Our shirts come in 2 colors and many sizes.

Like any store that sells clothing, I need to let the customer choose both the color AND the size.

The variation setting seems to be where I add this information, but it only lets me create a single list of variations. So my customers can pick a size OR a color, but not a size AND a color.

This doesn't make sense. The instructions even say this section is to be used for things like size and color.

I did find an old post on this forum, where someone suggested using a combination of variations and modifications to achieve this, but that's not what modifications are supposed to be for.

Someone else suggested creating multiple items, but that's an inventory disaster waiting to happen.

Can someone please tell me how to let my customers choose both a size AND a color without having to do some kind of hack?

Hi there @mikesclub,

Great question!

If you're wanting to create two separate pickers for size and color variations for your shirts in your Square Online store, you'll need to use the item Options and Pricing feature from the Edit Item page.

Here’s how you can set it up, so customers can select both size and color:

1. Go to your Square Online Dashboard.
2. Navigate to the Items tab.
3. Click Create an Item or select an existing item you want to edit.
4. In the item details, scroll down to the Options and Pricing section.
5. Click Create Variation or Add Variation.
6. Name the first variation set (e.g., "Size") and add all the possible sizes (e.g., Small, Medium, Large).
7. Click Save.

After saving the first set of variations, you should see an option to add another set of variations.

8. Click Add Variation.
9. Name the second variation set (e.g., "Color") and add all the possible colors (e.g., Red, Blue).
10. Click Save.

Check that both the size and color variations are active for the item. You should see a grid where you can manage each combination of size and color. Ensure each combination is correctly listed with its respective SKU, stock level, and price.

11. Once you’ve added all the variations and ensured they are correctly set up, click Save.

12. Preview your online store to make sure the item displays with separate dropdowns for size and color. Customers should be able to select both options before adding the item to their cart.
