Gift Recipient Name and Phone number for Local Delivery

Gift Recipient Name and Phone number for Local Delivery

There is a critical need for additional recipient details to ensure a smooth gifting experience, particularly for Local Delivery orders.

Current Workarounds & Issues

Since Square Online does not currently support proper recipient fields, we have had to create workarounds by manually adding modifiers to every listing to allow customers to input recipient details. This is less than ideal and creates unnecessary friction for both businesses and customers.

In the attached screenshots, you can see an example where Sarah ordered a gift basket for Justin, but because the checkout page only allows a single "Contact" field (which Square Support has advised should be used for the recipient’s details), Sarah entered her own contact information. As a result:

  • The order details incorrectly list Sarah as the recipient, instead of Justin.
  • There is no clear separation between the buyer and the actual gift recipient in the system.

Proposed Feature Enhancement

When Local Delivery is selected, additional fields should appear to collect:

  • Recipient Name (to personalize the delivery)
  • Recipient Phone Number (for delivery coordination)
  • Recipient Address (if different from the billing/shipping address)

Order Confirmation & Delivery Details Improvement

To avoid confusion, the system should ensure that:

  • The recipient’s name appears above the delivery address instead of the buyer’s name.
  • The buyer’s name is still included in the billing details but not listed as the recipient in the delivery details.

Additionally, to improve the checkout process:

  • The "Contact" field in checkout should remain for the buyer’s contact information.
  • The most logical place for recipient details is within the Local Delivery pop-up, where the address is entered. A simple checkbox that says "Recipient info is same as billing" would streamline this process for customers who are sending a delivery to themselves.

Why This is Important

  • Many customers send gifts directly to friends, family, or clients, and the current system does not allow for a separate recipient's name or phone number.
  • Businesses offering local delivery need accurate recipient information to ensure successful and hassle-free deliveries.
  • The current setup forces businesses to create workarounds that are cumbersome and inefficient.
  • The current system incorrectly places the buyer’s name above the delivery address, leading to confusion for both merchants and recipients.
  • This update ensures clarity in order fulfillment and avoids delivery mistakes, improving the overall customer experience.

Suggested Implementation

  • When a customer selects "This is a Gift", an optional form expands to capture the recipient’s name, phone number, and address.
  • The recipient’s name is displayed on the order confirmation email above the delivery address instead of the buyer’s name.
  • The merchant receives the correct recipient details in the order summary, making it clear who the gift is for and where it should be delivered while also showing the billing details separately.

This enhancement would streamline the gifting process, reduce errors, and improve customer satisfaction for businesses using Square Online for local deliveries.

Currently, when customers select the "This is a Gift" checkbox in Square Online, they can only add a gift note. However, there is a critical need for additional recipient details to ensure a smooth gifting experience, especially for Local Delivery orders.

Proposed Feature Enhancement

When "This is a Gift" is selected for Local Delivery, additional fields should appear to collect:

  • Recipient Name (to personalize the delivery)
  • Recipient Phone Number (for delivery coordination)
  • Recipient Address (if different from the billing/shipping address)

Additionally, on the order confirmation and delivery details, the system should ensure that:

  • The recipient’s name appears above the delivery address instead of the buyer’s name.
  • The buyer’s name is still included in the billing details but not listed as the recipient on the delivery label.

Why This is Important

  • Many customers send gifts directly to friends, family, or clients, and the current system does not allow for a separate recipient's name or phone number.
  • Businesses offering local delivery need accurate recipient information to ensure successful and hassle-free deliveries.

This enhancement would streamline the gifting process, reduce errors, and provide a more professional and seamless experience for both customers and businesses using Square Online for local deliveries.

I have the same issue! Someone needs to fix this!

We desperately need this too! We're a florist and 90% of our orders are sent to someone other than the buyer. Most people put their own name under "Contact" instead of the recipient., so we have no idea who to ask for when we deliver the flowers. I don't know who chooses the wording for these things at Square, but so many of the fields and messages shown to customers are confusing and unnecessary in places.

A simple change of "contact" to "recipient's name" would be good enough to stop most of our customers from getting confused!

Please consider changing this, Square!
