google won't index the http version of my site because weebly redirects my index page to the https version of the site. apparently this is because I have ssl enabled on my settings page but I'm not 100% sure. google is indexing the https version of the site but I want both indexed. is there a way to get the http version indexed? If I turn off ssl will I also be turning off the https version of the site?
HI @zenarcher
Is there s specific reason why you would like them to crawl and index the http version?
I'm not an expert by any means, but i would advise against having both of them indexed. Yes if you turn off the SSL, then that will remove the https version, and your site won't be secure. You will most likely turn away potential visitors and customers as well as a potential decrease in SEO.
Thank you, I think you are right to ask the question why would I need both http and https indexed and I without thinking I presumed both - but upon reflection I think the https is actually what I want indexed and don't need the http. Maybe that is the thinking when there is a permanent redirect of this sort so it drops the http. I had to tell google console to inspect the https home page, and add a site map, because it had not started indexing it, but after doing that it moved along and indexed 3/4 of it and I can probably get the rest with some trial and error. Thank you for your response!
No problem at all. Yes with the 301 redirect , it is set up how it should be. And since you submitted your sitemaps , and google is doing its thing you should be good to go now. I would think another couple of days it will have it all indexed.
