How do I create free item discount to be applied once when spending $30 or more

When a customer qualifies for the discount (spending $30 or more),  I want the discount to be applied once.  However, on Square, the 100% off discount can be applied multiple times.  For example,

1. Customer place multiple times in the cart to exceed $30

2. Then, a customer places a promotional item that can be purchased with 100% off discount

3.  A customer places one other item.

4.  A customer selects the another promotion item, then 100% discount gets applied again.  

Another word, customer can have unlimited amount of promotional item once he exceeds $30 of purchase.  

Is there a way to implement a 100% discount program that can be applied only once.

Hi there @Joh555.  There is, but it is not through the automatic discount mechanism in Square.  Rather, you would go to Marketing > Coupons, and create a limited coupon.  You can specify that the coupon is valid after purchasing selected items, for purchases over $x, and that it can only be used once.
