Profit Margin with Services Feature Request

I would like to be able to calculate my profit margin since I sell services and products. It looks like in the reporting feature there is a slot for this but there is no way to add a cost to a service. Conversely there is no way to add a duration to an item. Anyone else found a work around for this?
