From article:
Under the Common Cents Act, businesses would be allowed the option to round cash transactions to the nearest nickel. A $19.82 purchase becomes $19.80 while $19.83 becomes $19.85, for example.
Canada took this approach when it phased out its penny in the early 2010s.
This would only impact cash transactions, not those in which you’re paying with a check, mobile payment, or card.
US Sellers: Have you started rounding in your business?
I can't re-activate cash roudning currently @TCSlaguna due to a limitation to the interface with QubicaAMF Conqueror. The QA development team is working on a solution but it is not quite ready to beta yet. I had it activated for about 3 months at the start of the year in Champions beta, but then Square changed the API which broke the link to Conqueror, so I had to shut it off since April until QubicaAMF gets the API issue resolved.
Prior to using Square, I did cash rounding to the nearest nickle for almost 18 years as a part of my QubicaAMF POS system. I only had one person in all the years question what the "rounding" was.
I’ve been using the rounding feature since Square enabled the beta for it. Haven’t had a single customer notice or mention it. I do have pennies in the till though just in case someone complains
I price my items so when when sales tax is added it is a round number ..
examples -
$9.30 becomes $10 with tax
$29.77 becomes $32 with tax
$37.21 becomes $40 with tax
I made up a spreadsheet that I can refer to for oddball MSRP's, but I already have the common ones memorized - and so do many of my regulars. Sometimes with Square when multiple items are purchased I'll be a penny or two up or down, if its cash I just mentally round up or down if its a card it goes through as is. Have been doing this since the 2020 covid coin shortages.
