The last response I got from Square about my Square store, being slow was that I should try to limit the products I have available on my website to 20!! WTH!!! I want to switch to another e-commerce platform. Has anyone done that? If so, what did you go with and how well does it perform (speed, features, and square POS integration)?
Not done it, but would be very interested to know others answers as our site is painfully slow at times.
I was initially told it was due to the images so I have been through and made sure that every one of the photos on over 500 lines are low resolution (sometimes too low really) and the correct format. It's to made a jot of difference except some of them are now grainy.
We started off using Woocommerce on Wordpress which was great except the integration with Square didn't work so great and often the stock online didn't match what we physically had in Square - an issue when someone purchases something we don't actually have! It was for this reason that we moved to Square Online for our website (we used Square in our bricks and mortar store already where it works great). But frustratingly it's definitely holding us back now in terms of online growth.
Square is seriously getting worse and worse and they're trying to nickel and dime us more and more. I know Shopify is the most popular out there, but switching will be a herculean task.
Moving from Quicken POS to Square POS has been very easy for me. Quicken POS is being eliminated at the end of the month and they are pushing everyone to Shopify. I didn't like that I couldn't see pricing etc when I went out to look at Shopify and I know more people with square and are happy. Shopify was offering a discount to QuickenPOS users but it wasn't worth it to me.
My marketing advisor wants me to switch to Square Space, it more expensive but they told me its worth it. I currently use WIX its affordable and has many valuable fixtures for one set price. I use square only for payroll and the register.
I do not suggest WIX to anyone. My first store was on WIX and here are the problems:
- Search box on the site is actually a preview type service and limited to 30 use/month meaning 1 time a day!
To increase that limit you need to pay $6.99/month.
This function is used by most shoppers, as they don't want to drill down on categories, and not returning results will cost you a sale.
- Several Google required hidden attributes are missing on the page templates, resulting Merchant Center error/warnings and lower ranking.
- I didn't like their user interface, but this is a personal preference.
- Often experienced degraded performance, but it's hard to tell the cause of it.
Now, I only keep their free version active and test the import/export routine and my backup for images 🙂
I use BigCommerce for my site and have approx. 300 items. I tried to move my store to Square but it didn't have all the features of BigCommerce. I moved from Quicken to Square and my web store was already established. BigCommerce for what I have is $80 a month. It's easy to use and setup. You can connect BigCommerce to Square for inventory. I have a couple issues but it's simply user error on the inventory side. I just haven't had time to work it out. I haven't looked into Square Space. I just don't want to take the time to reinvent the wheel.
I’m HEAVILY considering moving to Shopify because Square just put a payment reserve on my account… They are going to hold 30% of my sales and release them after 4 months… Already contacted support and haven’t gotten a response in days.
Hoping to resolve the issue, but if it doesn’t improve they are about to lose lots of business from me.
I'm sorry to hear that. I looked at Shopify when I moved from QBPOS, but I wasn't impressed.
