Square Champion

If you could wave a magic wand and fix one thing about Square, what would it be?

Maybe it’s a missing feature, a weird quirk, or just something that slows you down. Let’s hear it! What would you magically improve if Square granted one seller wish today?

I love a lot about Square — the POS is solid, and the online store works great. This  got me to thinking and since @JUYBoutique20 started a thread on revamping their website and we are in the planning stages of doing ours.

I would like to see a little more control over our website, I would like to be able to place things where I want them,  have more control over the size of some items. Have more control over the options we offer with an item.

One other thing I would really like to see changed. In the past couple of months everytime I log into the seller community, Square opens another Square window. What is the purpose of that?

Yay for an aging report.  But please work out the kinks ...

1.  It is a slow loading page. I have to scroll down several times to load all of my items.

2.  The exported report is not accurate.  It is showing items that are zero in quantity as still being in stock.

Please add a gift registry option for online.  I have a workaround, but it is clunky and customers cannot create their own registry.

Oh yes! A gift registry would be so much help. We have a workaround too but it’s not straightforward and causes much more work for me than is ideal.

That’s a great idea and also a waitlist.  We get so many requests for a waitlist from our customers

I would love an option in my online store to view my item library by "date uploaded." I am a resale store so all of my items are single items. One and done. When marking old inventory on sale, it is nice to see what order I put them in.

The ability to nov move of stock items to the end of the catalogue.  we have customers who get bored filtering through through out-of-stock items in-stock.

Having all  items shown helps with google marketplace ranking.but needs better filtering instead of t system-wide”hide out of stock items in the settings

woocommerce has this capability so I would expect the same with Square online or

I mostly use the "Online Store" portion of Square. I have so many things that I wish they would add/fix, but my top 3 right now are:

1) Be able to change the date an item was added to the Square library (or create a custom field for this). This is for website sorting purposes. I sell some seasonal items that I carry over for a year or 2 depending on how popular they are. I need older seasonal items to show along with the new seasonal items as if they were all added together. I need them to sort by newest on my "Shop All" page of my Square website. I don't have the option for a custom sort order on this page because I have too many items.

2) Be able to add short videos to item listings. Glitter and shiny jewelry is hard to show what it looks like in person through just a picture.

3) Have the Sales price for an item sync to the Square point of sale app for in person events. Or a toggle to decide if it should sync.

A toggle to decide if sale prices should sync or not would be amazing - especially if it worked both ways. The way it is now so it shows sale price online but not in store is really odd to me - sometimes I only want an item to be on sale in store not online, but I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to have things reduced online but NOT instore

adding a NOTES feature to individual items that is staff, not customer facing is the one thing we need and have been beating the drum on for YEARS.

We'd like to use notes as a way to hold all that information about a product that the customer doesn't need to know but we need to memorialize. For example, where overstock is in the store; is the product cross merchandized in a different location; did we put the product in a window display; was the product a close out that we can['t order again; did we have an issue with the product and we don't want to order it again?.. etc etc.

We have over 1000 different products, 2 floors, 2 storefronts, a basement and an attic- it's a lot to remember!

Great idea.

That would be VERY handy and helpful.

We would definitely benefit from that as well.

I think every user has a list as long as their arm, but the additional control when formatting the website although it has improved over the years it would be nice to see even more of.

For me it would be improved integration withing the marketing function so email campaigns, text notifications, automations etc all just taking a giant leap forward and working a little bit more seamless. Its kind of there albeit slightly disjointed and a bit clunky. So take what you currently have add to it and super charge it! 😁

I wish the new square stand with iPad would have a confirm if somebody accidentally presses the cash button. We have so many times that we spin it around and show them where they can tap or insert their card and then they press the button on the screen that is the cash amount and then the drawer opens and then we have to refund it in the system and ring it up again so that they can pay with their card.

Our team has gotten to the point where they put their hand over the screen and emphasize tap or insert right here (pointing at the side of the stand where the tap and insert is lit up).

This happens at least once a week where the customer presses the dollar amount on the cash section thinking that they're agreeing to the dollar amount before they tap.

This is one of the reasons we don't spin the tablet around.  We just take their card, tap or insert, and give it back in the second or two it takes.  It just seems an extra step that adds confusion in the checkout process.

Most people are wary of handing over their card, even if everything is right in front of them. We never touch a customer's card. A good percentage of our customers (40%+) use their phone or watch to pay - they're not going to like handing those over either.

Hard HARD agree on the comments about Events! It would be great to be able to export attendee lists, check people in, do a seating chart, waitlists, and more. It only sort of works for us right now, and I intend to use something else WooCommerce-based, but to have it all connected natively in Square (esp. with regards to gift cards!) would be awesome.

More Restaurant features available for Retail users would be neat. I may have a unique(ish) use case, but any flexibility would help. I'd love Category Roll Ups for Retail.

Would LOVE the ability to do table reservations natively. Maybe I'm missing something, but It seems like that is only available integration is with OpenTable, and they won't work with me because I'm not a restaurant 😞

Maybe a "back in stock" notifier for online?

A few more features in Teams, like the ability to set black out dates or limit how many requests would be neato too. And if salary employees would just show consistently as their wage 40hr/week in the labor reports that would be great.

A better QB integration too, as a few others mentioned. I keep trying it out every once in a while (like once a year) to see if it has improved and just turn it off each time.

Ability to SPLIT COMMISSIONS!

Probably leaving SQUARE for this reason. I hate doing extra math on payday.

The below would be a start.

  1. Square Invoicing would have the same fees as Square retail or online.
  2. Integration with Calendly.com and Cal.com for online booking and payments.

hell where to start .. as a start up guy .. i get it they need to make money as well but if i cant use the products they are not making money

1) more and more features going behind pay walls , i had unit cost .. taken away .. its small and important measurements

2) shipping again behind the pay wall

3) the card fees ... .30 + 2-4% ... that can eat away any profit on low cost items vary fast should either be a flat rate across the board or a flat fee not both ...

The ability to apply discount rules to vendors.  The current system only allows you to select a category, or individual items.  I often have discounts on a specific vendor which has items across multiple categories and it takes FOREVER to individually select them all.

We have tax-free weekends for back to school each year.  The ability to temporarily make a category tax-exempt, similar to discounts, would be a game changer!

Having items display on the website in order from newest to oldest.  Yes, customers can manually change it, but why should they have to?  No one is looking for "what's old?"  There was a workaround posted in the forums to this issue and I tried it.  It did not work, sadly.

1. Having customer categories with seperate pricing, wholesale customers with different pricing, associations with different pricing, trade show/expo pricing.... you already have online pricing vs in person pricing

2. when a customer's phone number is typed in to add to the cart, remove the add this customer to the sale... just add the customer (like it was before) when selected have the customer added to the cart

3. actual customized reports, like customized inventory analysis; I only care so much about who sold what and when, I need to know the seasonal movement of inventory.

4.) website control, don't limit the amount of variants to go on my website... yes I have 40+ variants listed under an item; branded seeds need more than 20 options and no I am not creating more items to cover the variant selection

5.) egiftcards, why can they not be text to the recipent? I mean no one ever knows the email address of the receipent; let it be a text

6.) stop updating square and it rearranges all of my listings photos... I mean thousands of photos resorted is exhausting

..... I think I covered my top ones.... but there are more.... search bar bold font of the searched item is not actually bold, when every item is bold font.

Thanks for the question!!  🙂 Here's my initial wishlist:

1. Have way more flexibility within Square Dashboard item inventory library to sort, print and search. Yes, the new filter parameters are helpful, thank you, but they don't go far enough. I still have to export to excel, delete the dozen or more columns that are not relevant to me and then maybe I can sort and use it. Such a time waster when I should be able to do it within the app itself. It's worse when I just want a quick look/check and can't do it. Very frustrating.

2. Have an option in stock inventory for "donate" and "other" and then a box to explain what you did.

3. As another user mentioned, have a separate Notes box to put whatever you need in it (donee, had to inventory recount due to mistake, etc.). Right now I use the Description box for all the notes since it's the only one available and I know it is NOT for that purpose, but I still need to document an issue for that item..
