Hey there Aking_boi,

Don't get discouraged - assuming you have an online site - just because you do does not mean people will come and buy.   It takes time and a bit of online marketing - you have to get your name and business out there.

Here's a snip-it from one of my previous posts:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

What works well for one business may not apply to another.  I wish there was a magic solution cause we would all be happy.

Just having a web site does not mean instant sales but, the more ways someone can find you will certainly make a difference.

Suggestions:   Start with the basic social media sites, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Flicker, Pinterest, YouTube, Vimeo, Google Maps, Google Places for Business and Yelp - the more you get your name out there the better and you can setup these accounts at little or no cost - it's just your time.   Creating a video about your business or blogging can be helpful.  Advertising in your local paper may promote sales too.   Cross selling via other sites like Etsy may increase interest even if you just list a few items.

Another option is to spread the word via friends and family as word of mouth is very effective and free.

Depending on your budget, online ads may drive sales however, it's a challenge to determine your ROI - over the years we have spent quite a few dollars doing advertising however, we really don't think it was worth it as compared to word of mouth.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

As a follow-up:

We have a physical location where we create and sell our items.  This works quite well for us.  We used to also sell online however, thanks to the law makers in our state, they basically put us in a bad place for taxes, shipping and more.  The bookkeeping alone was a challenge not to mention the additional charges - imagine having to charge a customer an additional $.27 because the State wants more money and regardless of who purchases the item or where they reside, we have to report and pay their sales tax.  That accounting alone would be a major challenge.  There's also charge backs to consider - you sell, you ship, you get paid and then the customer contacts their bank or card issuer and tells them that they did not get their order or did not place that order.  They get their money back and in most cases, keep the item.   All said - we simply don't sell online anymore.

Hi Aking_Boi,

I agree, try not to get discouraged. jk has some brilliant advice.

There is no magic formula. Just try to look at the entire process as a journey. Remember, overnight successes are years in the making.

I have been selling on square for over 3 years and still not where I would like to be!  I just keep plugging along.  I do pay for the premium site at the "new" rate of $88 per month to host my website.  I just did a revamp and a reboot of my online business about 3 months ago.  I deleted everything and started over.  I have had some sales from there over the last three years, however, still not where I want to be.

I have just started to saturate all social media outlets that are free and trying to get my name out there as much as I can and not focusing so much on sales.  I think the key is consistency on social media.  I schedule posts in advance on Facebook, instagram, TikTok, snapchat, LinkedIn and Pinterest as much as I can; all with the purpose of driving people to my website.

I have lots of tips on posting, shipping, and customer service that makes my business stand out above others and many of my customers have commented on what great customer service Designz By Akiko has!  I take great pride in providing the best to my customers.

If you want to chat more and maybe just get some encouragement I would be happy to do that with you.  I am not perfect in what I do and I certainly am not the best.  Just keep plugging along and it will happen for you.  Don't give up!  We are all here for you!  Reach out if you need to:
