HELP!

I am trying to set up a free square eCommerce store. It is advertised as free here in the UK, and you just pay fees on sales. I might well upgrade later on, BUT at the moment I do not know if my little business idea will work or not, hence the free store.

Square want me to give my bank account details, which of course one would need to do, as they need to pay the money to me from sales.  However, when you try to set it up, it says it wants to create a direct debit - why? Why do they want to set up a direct debit for a free system? Can anyone shed light on this for me please? Trying to get hold of a human to speak to is practically impossible.

Here is the wording from the site:

I confirm that I am an authorized signatory on the bank account set forth above, and I confirm that I have the necessary authority to authorize Direct Debits for the bank account set forth above; and

I agree that Direct Debits may be in any amount I owe Square under the General Terms of Service or any of the Additional Terms linked thereto.

If you need to refund a customer for a returned product they’ll need to debit your account. It’s legit and definitely a free system. Just a part of doing business. Congrats on setting up your new store!

Thanks. I got it sorted out.  I wish it was clearer as it looked as if I was signing up for a debit order.  Freaked me out a bit.  I do find it frustrating the one cannot contact a human.  With Weebly we use to be able to do live chat, and even though I didn't need it often, it was helpful.  Anyhow, I set it up and it worked for a bit, but it now is showing none of my stock available to sell, and I have no idea why.  I have tried the suggestions on the group but nothing works.  I have lost so many sales today as I paid for advertising and now people cannot even order.  Sigh.
