Contactless Reader - Bluetooth doesn't stay paired

Last year I replaced my original chip & dip Square reader (circa 2015) with the bluetooth contactless reader. The original chip reader had started working when it wanted to rather than when I needed it to, however I'm not impressed with the bluetooth reader either. 

 

I sell at several craft fairs and vintage markets each year and I was having to try and pair the bluetooth reader before each sale (the reader wouldn't process a transaction so that's all I knew to try). The little button on the reader is too hard to press and I can't see the blinking lights well when I'm in the sun, not to mention I don't think I should have to pair it for each transaction. It slows down the checkout process and sometimes customers are in a hurry and don't want to wait, so I've lost a few sales. 

 

I really want to get this figured out before my first selling event this year (probably in mid-May). I like the reports Square provides, but if I can't get this reader figured out, I'm going to need to find a different solution.

You should not need to pair your device for each transaction you are processing. Have you had a chance to look over this guide for Troubleshooting the Contactless + Chip Reader

 

Is your app and mobile device up to date? If so, and if the other steps in the guide are not helping, I recommend you reach out to the support team directly for one on one assistance. We definitely want to make sure the device is working properly for you!

Hello Sierra,

Once you follow each step of the pairing process from within the set up guide provided with your new contactless card reader, it will remain good to go. Do not pair it from within your Bluetooth settings.You need to make sure your Bluetooth is on and pair it only from within the Square app. If you don't pair it from within the Square app and try pairing it from your phone Bluetooth settings, it will disconnect from the Square app. If you need further assistance, please reply to me and I'd be more than happy to guide you through the process.
