The title of this thread has been edited by a Square Moderator from the original: "Which is better hardware Square Register or a PC running Square POS?"
When Square does the plug-in for TCG Player I plan on moving from my current POS to Square POS and I am not sure if I should just get the Square Register. We currently run POS Maid for our POS on PC but Square is integrating TCG Player for trading card games like Magic The Gathering, Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh and it will be better for us to just use the Square POS software. Just wondering what others think of both the Stand alone software and the Square Register.
I hadn't heard about the TCG Player integration with Square, that's exciting! (not a game shop, just a super nerd, gonna have to let my local shop know)
I use Square Register at my retail shop and love it! We do a lot of tap payments (Apple pay especially) and we also sell a lot of gift cards. The customer terminal that comes with the register is great because it allows the customer to type their phone number/email so that we reduce typos and those awkward 'can you spell/repeat that' questions. It's also great that staff gets a code to login with that can limit what they have access to and it also tracks how many sales were made in their time at the register. (Square has a lot of cool staff features that we don't use yet but plan to setup this year)
That being said, the Square Register can ONLY do your Square POS work. So if you need to lookup anything on the web, or check a schedule, or run your tournament software up by your register, you'd want to go with a PC. The Square Register runs a bit more smoothly since it's a dedicated machine just for the POS. But you can add barcode scanners to either setup and overall functionality is there in both setups. The Square Register sometimes has fewer clicks between activities, but no major differences that I noticed.
I'd say it comes down to what you need to prioritize in your setup.
Do you need a fast and simple checkout for customers? Easy to train new staff and limit their access to your account? - Square Register
Do you need your cashier to multi-task while at the register? Don't have another device near the POS? - PC

We run two square registers- one at main register and one at our overflow register. As we take appointments, we run that on a separate iPad but take the payments at the register.
@RockShopMNC We use Square POS at our Farmers' Markets, for deliveries and wholesale. All items are in my Square POS including item costs and selling price by the pound if needed. No monthly fee and run it from your iPhone, Android, or iPad.

What POS hardware do you use at the farmers markets?
