How longs to wait for a 1099 correction

Square reported the business income to me (individual). We requested a 1099 correction Aug 1st. I’ve called so many times I’ve lost count- today I waited 1 hour on hold until I gave up. They give me the run around and tell me they’ve escalated the issue but nothing happens. Today, after discussing the issue on the chatI someone called me back 45 min later requesting a call. I was told they were going to look into it and call me back and no one did. What do I do who do I contact? I’m a little desespérate here

Hi there! Fellow Square seller and Square Champion here! ❤️

First, I completely understand your frustration. You’ve been trying to get this corrected since August 1st, and after multiple calls, escalations, and promised callbacks that never happened, I can understand why you’re feeling desperate.

A 1099 correction isn’t something that should be left unresolved without clear communication, especially when it could affect your tax reporting.

Since you’ve already exhausted the normal support channels, here’s what I would suggest:

  1. Request a written status update on your existing correction request, including the case number, the department handling it, and whether the corrected 1099 has actually been submitted for processing.
  1. Ask specifically for escalation to the tax reporting team. General customer support may not have the ability to make changes to tax documents directly.
  1. Verify the taxpayer information associated with your Square account. If the income was reported under your personal information instead of your business’s, it’s important to confirm exactly which information needs correcting.
  1. Consult your CPA or tax professional. Depending on your business structure, the correction may involve more than simply changing the name appearing on the form. They can also advise you on how to handle your tax filing while the correction is pending.

I’d also encourage a Square Community moderator to review this situation and see whether they can help direct your existing case to the appropriate team.

One question: Is your business structured as an LLC, corporation, or sole proprietorship? That distinction can matter when determining whether the 1099 was actually issued incorrectly.

As a Square Champion, I believe sellers deserve more than repeated promises that something has been escalated. They deserve communication, accountability, and a clear path toward resolution.

I truly hope you’re able to get some answers soon. Please keep us updated! ❤️
