Itemised Invoices

Hi,
I'm fairly new to square and have tried searching for an answer to my specific need, unsuccessfully.

I'm trying to create an invoice for services rendered in a week.  I want to itemise by day of the week, hours per day at a fixed hourly rate.
I typed in the days of the week using "items" field and added the hourly rate. Where I came unstuck was on days where I had part hours (2.5, 3.5 etc).
After doing some searching of the help filed I found that I could have decimal placed quantities if i set up items, set the number of decimal places and naming the item. I did this for th first day of the week, thinking I could edit the item description in the invoice for the remaining days of the week but it seems this isn't possible.
From what I can fathom, I need to create an item for every day that I want to use anything but whole hours. I invoice for this work on a weekly basis, so having an item for every calendar day is simply impractical.
Is there a way to achieve my needs in a simpler way that will allow me to duplicate and edit the previous weeks invoice to create a new invoice with the current weeks billable hours?
I hope that makes sense to someone....
Cheers,
Pete...

Hey @PWPhotography,

Thanks for getting in touch and providing such detailed feedback about how you're using invoices!

I took a further look into this and I don't think the "items" and "quantities" features will quite achieve what you're looking to do here. Because the system wasn't designed to track billable hours, it doesn't quite work for this purpose, as least not as smoothly as an app dedicated to tracking billable hours might.

What I can suggest as the easiest workaround is sticking to your initial approach by creating an item for a billable hour for a given day of the week, then adding additional items for lots of time on those days (eg 15 or 30 minute "items").

You could also look into using other methods of tracking billable hours. There are some apps out there that can help you do this, or you could simply generate a PDF document that features a breakdown of hours worked and total costings, then attach it to the invoice and simply charge for the entire amount as a single custom amount.

Hope this helps, sorry I couldn't give the exact solution you were looking for. Please let me know if you have any questions!
