Brand new 1 st gen reader won’t pair says “Reader Damaged”

Hello, I finally unpacked the square reader (for contactless and chip) and dock we purchased from Office works in Australia in 2020. Our business plans changed but I finally unwrapped it hoping to use it over Easter and it will not connect with the App. Saying Reader Damaged. It has been weraped and stored the entire time. I have tried resetting…. Please can anyone advise?
