Hi, new here and new to Square. I bought a machine to help me with customer payments on site.... however, without reading the smaller print and detail I found that Square was so much more. I am a tradesman, not a store, FYI.
So, i have set up contracts and estimates etc and have two questions:
1. I can send estimates, but sometimes want to be able to send a quote. Legally they are completely different, but I cannot find a way to send a Quote, as the 'Estimate' header doesn't appear editable..... is it?
2. I sent a client an estimate with a contract attached. They get it ok and in the email body there is a link to "View Estimate" and "View Contract". However, when clicked, it takes them to a Square Login/Signup page..... Surely they don't need to go through all this just to read it? I was rather hoping they would click it, read it and accept. Signing up is likely to put off some of my clients, and I was really hoping to make use of this now that I have set it all up.
Would appreciate any comments on this before I head to the support chat.
thanks
Hi @Tazzy666uk thanks for your post and welcome to Square 🙂
You can use Square as a tradesman for sure, not all features are designed for shops/restaurants.
According to our resources 'With Square Invoices, you can send clients an estimate so they can review a quote before moving forward with the goods or services.' It looks like Estimates are intended to work as a Quote here.
With regard to editing the Header - I don't think it's possible but I can do some testing - what would be the use case for editing it? I can see if there's something we can come up with.
The second issue definitely seems like something is amiss - the customer will get a PDF of an estimate so, I'm not sure what link they received but no, they won't need to log in anywhere.
If possible I would suggest sending yourself a test contract or estimate to see how the flow works. Feel free to send a screenshot otherwise of that particular case and I can take a closer look.
Hi Breffni, thanks for getting back to me.
Legally, in the UK an estimate does not work as a quote, hence the need to be able to offer 'quotes'. 50/50 I offer fixed price jobs without the need to give an estimate but as you see from the attachment, it is titled "NEW ESTIMATE". I can see from searching the forums that this has been asked before. I cannot use Square if I cannot send 'quotes'.
When I send an invoice, there is a link to download a PDF
When I send an estimate, it is a link to Square's website with a need to log in or signup.
When I send an estimate with a contract, the contract is also a link to the Square website.
I did do a test when signing up and going through the tutorial..... it is the same as above.
Thank You
