Are Square Payments 3DS Secure?

Hello,

Do you guys happen to know how I can enable 3D secure payments? I do not have the option in my risk manager.

Hi @serenitytube 👋 welcome to the Seller Community and Square.

Thanks for your post, I appreciate your concern, we know how important it is to keep payments as safe as possible.

If you are using Square’s standard products such as Square Online and Invoices, you do not need to make any changes as the products have been updated to meet SCA requirements.

For online card payments, the SCA requirements are met by implementing 3D-Secure 2. For in-store contactless payments, SCA requirements are already met through chip and PIN requirements when certain cumulative limits are reached, or mobile wallets.

You can find more information and answers to commonly asked questions in our FAQ.

Risk Manager is an additional form of security that will allow you to create rules in Square Dashboard to trigger your fraud alerts or to automatically decline suspicious payments.

I hope this helps!

Hello,

Thank you for the response. I am using square with my online store on the platform Sellix. How can I activate 3D secure payments for payments on this platform? According to my research, the 3DS secure option should be located in Risk Manager however it does not show up for me there.

Square

@serenitytube It sounds like you were looking at support articles from the US/Canada, Risk Manager 3D Secure is not available in the UK at this time.

As I mentioned, If you are using Square’s standard products such as Square Online, you do not need to make any changes as the products have been updated to meet SCA requirements.

Regarding your integration, when you can, please consult the FAQ from my original message:

"Square eCommerce APIs: Sellers, Developers and Partners that use Square’s developer products such as Square Payment Form and the Connect V2 APIs must ensure their applications are SCA-compliant. To be compliant with SCA guidelines, developers will need to update their Square integrations according to our developer documentation.

App Marketplace Integrations: If you use Square to accept payments through a third-party eCommerce integration (such as WooCommerce, OpenCart or GoDaddy), the app provider will manage SCA compliance on your behalf and no action is required from you."

Hello,

I've recently transitioned  from stripe to square and one immediate difference I noticed is the lack of 3DS payments. I'm aware that square does provide 3D secure payments in other countries such as the United States however for online businesses selling digital goods, it is a crucial feature that is missing on the UK version of the site.

3DS payments are extremely important to avoid any online fraudulent payments and avoid chargebacks due to malicious users using carding methods to pay with stolen cards etc. I have setup as much security as I can through the risk manager but it isn't enough compared to if we had the simple option of enabling 3D secure payments.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could take this feature request into consideration as many businesses fall scam to chargebacks as a result of this.

Best Regards,
