Are you offering anything “different” for Pride 2022?

Hi, all.

I’m curious about how other businesses promote and participate in their local Pride month celebrations.  I’ll get the ball rolling.

Northern Kentucky Pride is a smaller, but quickly growing, Pride celebration — part of the Greater Cincinnati Pride events.  Piper’s is lucky enough to be located at the very end of the parade route, and smack in the middle of the booths and events that occur in our local park.  Everyone knows that this is a gay-owned business.

This year we decided to start a new tradition.  As an ice cream shop, we’ve always had rainbow sprinkles, of course.  But this year we are stocking up on nonpareils in a large variety of colors.  Then, we will create color sets for most of the major flags of the pride community segments — bi, trans, nonbinary, etc.  Also, since we will have lots of colors to choose from, if someone wants to decorate their frozen treat with flag colors we didn’t create, they just have to tell us what colors they want!

Sure, the Rainbow Flag is important to each of us and to the community as a whole.  But there’s nothing wrong in wearing our specific colors with just as much pride.  It’s a simple and small thing, but hopefully a popular addition to our celebration at Piper’s!

Pride runs a little differently here in Athens, Georgia.  Last years event was canceled, because of COVID.  They later scheduled an event a local brewery and I had my craft show booth at the Pride event for the first time.   It was great!

For the first time, there is going to be a parade this year in June, but they are only selecting non-profits this year.   It's my understanding that it's to bring supporting groups together.  

I started creating Georgia themed fabric artwork late last year and they quickly became a regular offering.  I've been working on a new batch this week:

Very cool.  I’m glad to hear that Pride there is growing.  Our first few years in Northern Kentucky were very small, but not anymore, especially now that we can have a parade again! Happy Pride!

Yes, I am participating in the Dresscode Project's Gender Free Haircut Club event!

The Dresscode Project (DCP)  aims to make gender affirming safer hair spaces a priority in salons, so that folks who identify within the 2SLGBTQIA + communities are able to get haircuts that help them look the way they feel, and the DCP currently has over 50 salons that will be participating in this event on June 12. 

The DCP Gender Free Haircut Club (GFHC) event was created in order to give marginalized folks within the queer community a chance to get a haircut that is gender affirming in a community environment that makes them feel safe and celebrated. Gender Free Haircut Club

@HairGuyLancer That is a really intriguing idea.  I’m not sure that is something that we are doing here in Greater Cincinnati, so I hope it’s ok it I share it with out Pride folks on both sides of the Ohio River.  Thanks for sharing!

I love this idea - I once had to leave a salon because of this and I kept sending them the DCP info until they changed their offerings menu to be non-gendered. It made me feel terrible every time I booked there even though my stylist was supportive of my gender identity. Thank you for doing this!

Atlanta has Pride in October but there are some Stonewall week events here in Atlanta. We are focusing on our LGBTQ+ members and we recently hung new "ok to be gay" signs and new inclusive pride flags around the building. We've had a lot of feedback that our space feels comfortable and safe because of our signage and flags.

Sunday is almost here, with Northern Kentucky Pride.  The forecast is for a sunny, seasonable and DRY day!  Perfect for soft serve sprinkled with festive pride flag colors!  Happy Pride Month to everyone in our community. We are strongest together!

Meant to share this earlier! Something different I really appreciated that San Francisco tried this year was a new light installation on Market Street!

Check out these rainbow beams piercing through the fog — I wouldn't mind if they found a reasonable way to make it permanent. 😉
