the square Terminal is black with a white square logo.  Do restart, do factory reset. No joy.

This has happened a couple of times over the years, and I think it’s a common source of confusion.

the square Terminal is black with a white square logo.  Do restart, do factory reset. No joy.  What is going on?

I finally realized that when I was logging back in, and it gave me the choice of entering password, OR device code, I should NOT use the nice device code generated in my square account on my iPad, because this would just turn the Terminal into basically a printer for the checkout screen on the iPad.

I thought I was being offered a shortcut so I wouldn’t have to remember my password, again. So I took the easy route. Big mistake.

The Square account associated with your email can be accessed by any device you have logged into the account, using your email and your password.

Problem solved when I signed out of the terminal, and logged back into the account independently, with username ( email) and pesky password.

Now  I can view the checkout screen simultaneously from both the iPad and the terminal.

Simple, but it took me a moment to wrap my head around what was actually happening.  Hope this clarifies this issue for anyone else, and helps.
