"Honest Shop" Self Serve Kiosk?

I own a multi-tenant office building and we have some amenity spaces set up, one of which we are setting up an 'honest shop' of various healthy snacks and beverages. For context, the building does not have public access, doors are locked 24/7 and only accessible by the 100 or so people who work in the building.

In so many ways Square's software and the ipad stand seem perfect for this application. It checks all the boxes from form factor, payment methods accepted, pricing, syncing with Xero, etc..

However, I am unclear on if there is a way to have the Ui be 'customer facing' so that our tenants could use it in a self-service function. If there is no direct setting for this, would there be a work around anyone knows of to maybe set up a new user profile that is extremely restricted, sign that POS into this restricted account, and have it work 'good enough'?

Without having the hardware connected to the app and really trying it, and being unfamiliar with the Ui/Ux, I'm just unsure of how feasible this is.

Thanks in advance

Hi @EagleOne44 !

You could definitely set up a very restricted login and utilize the Point of Sale UI for what you want, but I'd be a little wary of doing it this way, especially in more of an unsupervised environment like you're talking about. Even with a limited pool of people, you'll always have to play to the lowest common denominator, which usually means I would expect someone to louse it up in some way. Plus, Square's UI, while still a lot better than some of the others out there, still takes a bit of a learning curve to understand. I don't think I'd put that on the end user. I can see you getting some pushback and non use.

I'd recommend looking at a third party app that integrates directly with Square but allows for a full blown, locked down, kiosk mode. There are quite a few in the Dashboard's App Marketplace. I have used KioskBuddy in my store in the past and absolutely loved it. Large, intuitive buttons for the customer, you can define checkout flow, and it has a full integration with Square. I had it loaded on an older 1st gen Stand with a contactless reader and it connected to it seamlessly. I'd recommend checking them out.
