I have been using my contactless chip reader successfully on my huawei mobile phone for over a year now. Just 2 days ago it decided to no longer connect and reads "press button on reader to connect", however doing so either does nothing or reads "couldn't pair with square reader 2603 beacuse of an incorrect PIN or passkey". I have never ever had this come up previously and now square POS app only lets me take manual card entry, which is highly inconvenient in a shop. I have gone through ALL trouble shooting options, restarts, reinstalls, off and on etc and still the same issue. Can anyone help please? I did try to call the support number however there was a long wait warning and cannot remain on hold for long periods of time on shopfront. I am wondering is this reader just faulty and need replacing? I read a thread response that mentioned if it does not say it is damaged it should be able to be fixed. I have spent hours and hours on trying to get this working again. Anyone have any tips/advice for anything that may not be specified in the troubleshooting page? my data works & my bluetooth works on my device, just all of a sudden does not want to become available! Thanks for getting in touch and sorry to hear about your reader.
Can you try:
1) Hold down the button until the lights completely STOP flashing red. This performs a hard reset on the reader.
2) Once you've reset the reader, try connecting the reader again (via the Square POS app and NOT your device Bluetooth settings) then running a $1 test transaction on your own card as per the instructions here.
Let me know at which point you're getting stuck and we'll see if we can get things going!
Hi Seamus, I just tried your suggestion above. My square reader was working perfectly fine and today for some reason just would not pair. I did my client's payment through manual card entry. But then disconnected my square reader in order to reconnect it and was unable to. Now reading this help advice, I have updated the square app. Then now attempted repairing square reader and still no connection. I have an OPPO A54s. Working perfectly fine until today. Now left without a connection at all and unable to pair even after reading all the instructions, watching the help videos and following your advice above.
I also just did the hard reset suggestion above I forgot to mention Seamus.
And unusually my the Bluetooth on my device no longer even displays my square reader as a blue tooth device
I managed to get my square reader to connect but why has square made only "tap to pay" available on the device and no longer on the square reader. Many of my clients do not have cards that can be read on "tap to pay"?????? Why is this now the only option available? Is there a work around so they can still tap the square reader to pay? That worked fine and now no longer seems to be an option??? If there's a work around or another several buttons and pathways to take, I'd love to know them thanks.
