why can we arrange the modifier order for the handheld but it doesn't mimic the same order on the POS >>? please fix this its been like this for years!
I was able to get some more insight into this. You’ll need to rearrange the modifier from the item details itself — it can’t be done just from the modifier section on Dashboard. If you make the changes from the item, they should reflect the same way in Point of Sale. I know this has been a bit confusing, but I hope this helps!

To better assist, can you provide some more context? Which devices are you using?
Using the handheld and also the POS. You can re arrange the modifiers in the order you want but the only one it makes a difference on is the handheld. The physical POS does organize the way you want only the handheld. Why is every product a different format ?
I apologize, I'm still a little unclear which devices you're using — are you using the Square Handheld? And when you say POS, do you mean the Square app on your phone?
On your Dashboard, you can rearrange modifiers, and once you save those changes, they should show the same across all your devices.
I know you’ve probably already tried this, but on the point of sale device, have you signed out and back in after making the updates? If you can, please share a photo of what you’re seeing — that would be super helpful!
We are using the cash register pos with the handheld. After rearranging the modifiers it works for the hand held but does not arrange them my way it only arranges them in alphabetical order on the cash register pos.
Did you rearrange them from your Dashboard and it’s still happening? If not, try making the changes from there first. If the issue continues, I can get this escalated for you.
Just to confirm, you’re using Square for Restaurants on both devices, right? Our team always likes to see what you’re seeing on your end, so if you can share a few screenshots, that would be great.

Hi I signed on here to troubleshoot the same issue. Our modifiers have been rearranged in a way that does not match the presentation on the dashboard. I've tried editing the dashboard this morning to see if it would rearrange but no luck.
Until this morning everything was in the correct order. Today the ipad we use to run square POS as our register, as well as the app on my iphone have modifiers in a new order that is not what we have on the dashboard. We have an older ipad that also runs POS but not on the current version because the iOS is too old. This ipad has not changed our order of modifiers and is correct to what we see online in the dashboard.

Can you share the app version on both iPads (In the app, click More > Support > About) and confirm which one is displaying correctly? It would also be helpful to include the iPad versions and any screenshots you can provide.

Things are displaying correctly on our old Mini 4 (in a black case below) which runs iOS 15.8.4 and Square 6.63.1sw
Things are incorrect on our Mini 6 (in the red stand below) which runs iOS 18.7.1 and Square 6.79.1sw
It is hard to see in these images, but one good example is the "RED ALERT" modifier should be near the top of the screen on both the egg sandwich and sandwich options below. It is one of the first modifiers listed in order in our dashboard but is showing up at the bottom of the modifier options on the incorrect view.
I also tried moving some other modifiers around and applied new ones to items. The newly applied options show correctly in the older version, and incorrectly in the newer version.
I have logged out and relaunched and logged in where we have incorrect display to no avail (don't want to mess with the one where it is currently correct).
Am I able to impersonate your Dashboard? If not, no worries — could you share a few photos of the modifier list from your Dashboard?
Can you elaborate about what impersonating means? I think I am Ok with it, especially as we have some old modifier sets gunking up any images I could send.
Here is a quick snip shot that should show the red alert being towards the top of the list. The impacted items are all at the David's location, where the red alert shows as the last modifier option on most items to which it is applied.

Thank you so much for your patience @ddandff I checked with our team, and this is expected behavior — the order of modifiers isn’t guaranteed to match the arrangement on the Dashboard. It appears correctly on the iPad Mini because it’s running an older version. On the thread, there is a discussion about improving ordering sequencing in upcoming versions, but I don’t have any additional details beyond that. I completely understand that this isn’t ideal and apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused.

For clarification: You are telling everyone, including myself, who have been rearranging modifiers to our preference for a very long time, that today's update that broke this functionality for all of your clients was an intentional change to achieve "expected behavior", and that we should go make a feature request to address it?
For now, yes. I slightly updated my reply above. This does seem to be something our team plans to address in the next few versions, but I don’t have any details on exactly when it will be available. You can hold off on submitting any feature requests. I really appreciate you bearing with us through this. I know it’s not easy when something changes unexpectedly and there isn’t an immediate fix.

Thank you for the timely fix! It's unfortunate I had to go in and manually fix some of them, but the devs added a convenient "Reset to default order" button that I could use on each of the items. As well, now they've added the extra functionality of being able to customize modifier order for each specific item rather than the modifier sets order as a whole. Kudos!
