is Star Micronics Mc Label 3 supported with Square Stand?

Based on another post https://community.squareup.com/t5/Square-Point-of-Sale/Will-Star-Micronics-Mc-Label-3-work-with-squa... I guess the answer might be 'No', but as far as I know, all the Star printers are compatible with ESC/POS command, so is it due to any other reason that Mc Label 3 printer is not supported?

Thanks.

Hi, @Mumu !

Let me explain the compatibility issue with the Star Micronics mC-Label3 and Square:

  1. Printer Type Difference
  • The mC-Label3 is specifically a label printer
  • Square typically supports receipt printers
  • While both may use ESC/POS commands, they serve different purposes
  1. ESC/POS Implementation
  • Although the mC-Label3 supports ESC/POS commands, there can be variations in:
    • Command implementations
    • Printer control sequences
    • Paper handling methods
  • Square's software is optimized for specific receipt printer models they've tested and certified
  1. Square's Printer Support Square maintains a specific list of supported printers that they've tested and verified to work with their system. They primarily support:
  • Receipt printers
  • Kitchen printers
  • Impact printers
  • Selected mobile printers
  1. Why ESC/POS Alone Isn't Enough Even though a printer supports ESC/POS:
  • Different printers may implement commands differently
  • Label printers require specific formatting and control sequences
  • Square's software is designed for receipt-style output
  • Hardware-specific features may not be properly supported

@Candlestore provided some great insight as well. I hope this helps and gives some clarity!

@Mumu ,

I am using one Mc-Print3 Model MCP31LB with 2 Squares Stands as it is able to be Networked.  This model can connect by USB, Bluetooth or Network cable.  I am not sure which model your looking at but you may want to try https://posguys.com/Square-Compatible-Hardware.asp/ and ask them if the model you looking at is Compatible with Square Stands.  As they sell Square Pos Systems and will test hardware IF they have it available for testing.  I am only able to test what I use as others in this forum are probably in the same position as me.
