With iOS 15 dropping this evening & many of us using personal devices with square too - the big question is…
Any known bugs or reasons we shouldn’t jump into iOS 15 straight away?
Hey @Sam_400º, thanks for raising this! It's definitely a top of mind for us and I know our team have been hard at work testing out features to make sure major bugs are addressed before official released. From checking on my end, I'm not seeing any known bugs that hasn't been resolved but I'm just checking in with different teams to make sure I'm not missing anything.
I may not get any answer back until this afternoon and the update is scheduled to release this evening, so it might be best to wait until tomorrow's morning to run updates.
Thanks Tra - I tend to hold off for a week on my work devices, but jump in on my own (that I also use for work too). But after a very tricky weekend I wanted to double check anything hiding in the background 👍
That's completely understandable Sam and I'd probably take the same approach myself. I've just reached out to the team there and will share all I know on this thread.
I just want to update this thread as it looks like we did run into some issues with the reader connecting to devices running iOS 15. Our teams have been able to resolve this issue but if anyone is having trouble connecting their readers, please try the following troubleshooting steps:
If you are still seeing any connectivity issues after running through these steps, please don't hesitate to tag me (@tranguyen) and I can take a look!
Hi, please can you confirm it's definitely okay to update to iOS 15 as I've been holding off until I've had confirmation it will be fine?
The latest update on my iPad is showing as 15.2.1.
Thanks
Gavin
Hi @Valleycraft, you can update to iOS 15. All the issues that occurred have been fixed already. Please make sure your Square application is updated as well.
I had this problem after updating one iPad to IOS15. Having read this thread, I followed Tra's procedure and all was fine. Now, another iPad has updated to IOS15.1 and, sure enough, I'm being asked to update the Point of Sale. So, as before, I did the same process but this time, the problem persists. I'm now unable to take payments on the IOS15.1 iPad which is running POS v5.79.
What else can I try, Tra? Is it worth waiting longer than 30 minutes, e.g overnight?
Hi @petersmith
Just stepping in for Tra here. I checked in with our engineering team and there shouldn't be any issues connecting your device after updating to iOS 15.1
Would you mind checking that the following setting are enabled:
Once that's done please trying running through these steps in this order:
I hope this helps, let me know if you run into any issues!
That worked fine, thank you Alegra. I did not have to uninstal and re-install the App. During the time we've been using Square readers, we have got through quite a few which have stopped working. We have always 'forgotten' the old ones within the App but I noticed a big list under the device bluetooth settings which I then forgot in the bluetooth settings.
This problem has caused quite a bit of worry and stress. I do not think Square comes out of this with much honour: had we been warned, we would not have upgraded IOS; surely a banner on the app, an email or notication in the back office could have been provided? Any why have to go through your complicated procedure in the first place? There must be an easier way!
Anyway, many thank for the solution - we can take payments again!
