change from retail to restaurant

Currently using Square retail for our new coffee shop/ bar / food/ clothing/ takeaway.....but have come across a problem, we need to add tables to put orders against but looks like you can't do this on retail? so guessing i need to change to restaurant. Can anyone help with the following:

1. Can you add tables on retail and i'm just being daft and can't do it....?

2. If not, do i need to upgrade to restaurant?

3. if so, will i lose anything from the retail solution?

4. also, does it delete anything from retail? got the fear i change it & delete my whole inventory....

any other help/ advice/ tips welcome 🙂

Thanks all!

Hey @Sandsoftyne - I used to live just round you way (well, Benton)!

I don't use the retail side of things so not going to try and answer those questions as I'll get it all confused, but if it helps you can use the free or paid (trial) along side your current retail set up to give it a test out to see if it does what you need without effecting anything on your retail side of things. The items and inventory will be the same.

I use both the standard POS app and the restaurant and KDS app all together and the integrate well.

Hi @Sandsoftyne, thanks for your post. As suggested by @Sam_400º, you can try Square for Restaurants for free and see if it meets your needs.

In regards to the table plan and managing orders, Square for Restaurants is what you need. Square for Retail doesn't have table plan feature. However, you can manage your sales with Square for Retail and manage your coffee shop/bar orders with Square for Restaurants.

You won't lose your Square for Retail data when you use Square for Restaurants. In your Online Dashboard you will have separate options for Retails and Restaurants to manage your table map, items and sales.

I hope it helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Emma, sort of yeah but guess I'm struggling with having a separate retail & restaurant as its the same business and the sales all happen in the same place (and online using weebly) How would this work in practice? Also we use the Square Terminal so how would tables/ restaurant all link with that? Thanks 🙂

@Sandsoftyne, you can use both apps simultaneously from one account. You don't have to create another account and all your data will be accessible from one account. If you have one iPad, you will need to switch the app depending on the sale whether it's a retail purchase or restaurant order. Many sellers use multiple apps and it works well. You can also manage your online orders from Square for Retail. Please learn more about this in our Support Centre.

In regards to Square Terminal, you can use Square for Restaurants on your Square Terminal. However, this feature is available with the Square for Restaurants Plus plan only. Please learn more in our Support Centre

I hope it helps. Please let me know if you have any other question.

Final question Emma, do we need to pay for retail and restaurant or is there a different pricing structure for both?

There are free tiers for both - but if you want some of the extra features then the paid options are the way to go. The main paid feature I use is the KDS in the kitchen as this simplifies things for me no end.

If you wanted to use both paid options from retail and paid options from restaurants then you would be paying for both. If you do think you're in that position I'd suggest chatting to a/your accountant as that would mean the setup you've got right now is pretty complicated!

Looking at the retail offering on your site compared to the extensive sit in and take away options you've got I think you'll end up using the restaurant side of things.

@Sandsoftyne, there is a free plan for both. Depending on your need, you can upgrade to Plus plan for both app at anytime. Here is a comparison of Square for Restaurants plans and Square for Retail Plans
