Why isn’t my tap to pay by phone not working ?

I’ve set everything up correctly and every time I try to do a test checkout the tap to pay by phone button is grayed out ! My Apple ID is valid and working fine and it’s connected to my bank account I don’t have a card reader but I still want to make my bake sales cash and card so my friend recommended this for me since you don’t need a reader ! Can anyone help me out ?

I have an iPhone 13 !

I should have asked with original question what version of iOS?

The phone is new enough and as long as you are running newer than iOS15.5 it should work so that others can pay you on your phone.

@AmberWarren just to add to @VanKalkerFarms suggestions, I would ensure you have this enabled also.

1. Enable Tap to Pay:

• Within the Square app:

• Tap ≡ More > Settings > Account.

• Select Tap to Pay on iPhone.

• Toggle Tap to Pay on iPhone to On.

• Verify your Apple ID. If incorrect, choose Use a Different Apple ID.

• Tap Agree & Continue.

2. Check Apple ID Integration:

• Ensure you’re signed in with your Apple ID:

• Go to Settings.

• If not signed in, tap Sign in to your iPhone.
