How would I charge extra for egg dishes because of the temporary egg price increase. And have it automatically charged when that item is selected from my list of items in square. Without having to have my cashier try to remember to select a key everytime that egg dish is ordered?
Hi @Mike7,
Thanks for your post, and welcome to the Community!
Item Modifiers are typically used to apply optional extras to items at checkout, however in this use-case you could use the functionality to apply a charge to all egg-based items in bulk. When the market price settles, you can then easily remove the Modifier without the need to edit each item individually.
As you'll see, default modifiers will be automatically applied when you add the item to the cart. You can also assign a rule that requires at least one modifier to be selected.
To create a Modifier:
Once you've saved your Modifier, you can then assign it to your items in bulk using the Apply to Items action button.
After applying your Modifier, you can also further customise the Modifier set rules at an item level, by selecting each individual Item from your Library and scrolling to the Modifiers section.
As you'll see I have two Modifiers applied to this particular Item, so while it's not necessary, I can further dictate how the Modifiers are applied at checkout.
If you think this might be helpful, you can learn more about Creating and Managing Modifiers, from our support centre.
As an alternative, you could also create a Service Charge. However, service charges cannot be automatically applied to certain items. Instead a Service Charge button would be available on your Point of Sale, for your team to manually apply at checkout. It's also worth noting that while multiple service charges can be applied to an order, the same service charge cannot be used more than once on the same ticket.
With that in mind, I do think that the Modifiers route would be the best fit.
