Why is "Tap to Pay on iPhone" no working?

I have tried with my new Iphone 16 which is supposed to be compatible according to Square support which I spent over an hour with and then several useless emails. I am frustrated and at the point of doing Apple Pay as a side platform to accept tap to pay kind of payments at our farmers market in addition to the regular Square POS app.

@landGirl52 @Welcome to the community.  Here’s a few thing to try. 
1. Make sure the Square app is up to date.  


2.Enable NFC. 

  • Go to Settings → General → Tap to Pay on iPhone
    • Make sure it’s enabled
  • If the option is missing, your Square app might not be set up for Tap to Pay yet  

3.Check Square app settings. 

  • Open Square app
  • Go to ≡ → Settings → Hardware → Tap to Pay on iPhone
    • Toggle it on
    • Follow any prompts to set it up

 

4.Check for restrictions.  

  • Make sure Screen Time or Device Management isn’t blocking NFC
  • Business profiles or MDMs can interfere. 

5.Make sure the credit card is positioned correctly (this has happened to me)

  • Hold the customer’s contactless card, phone, or watch close to the top back of your iPhone
  • No case? Or try removing the phone case—some block NFC. 

    6. Last but not least.  Try uninstalling the app and re downloading it. 

Hopefully one of these will solve your problem.
