Why are my inventory counts changing?

[The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Inventory Counts changing]

We are having an issue with inventory counts changing... Not from us but we don't know how..

This morning we had had an item at zero that someone suddenly purchased...This scenario happened twice on the same item... Once we saw the first purchase, we confirmed an inventory count of zero & then another purchase came thru...

At 2:09 today all of the variations of one of our items suddenly set to zero...?

Please advise...

thanks!

We solved the mystery of all things going to 0 at 2:09pm...

But the morning issue we had is still a mystery...

Hey @wiltshire-

Thanks for posting in the Seller Community!

Sorry to hear that you were experiencing this issue. Were you able to identify what happened? Did this occur when a sale was made using the app or the Square Online Store?

I'm curious about this mystery, so let me know!

The big one at 2:09pm was user error...

But for the early morning one... here's what we "think" happened...

An incorrect count of 1 was in for an item - Multigrain

we noticed this and changed it to zero but customer had it in a cart... then removed it so it went back to 1... we set to zero again and someone still managed to purchase it (assumption that it was in a cart)... this scenario happened a third time as well...

The big take away is to get counts right at the start of the day, but am super curious if there is a timeout for counts sitting in carts... If a customer added 3 loaves of bread sitting in a cart all day, does that keep me from selling them?

thanks,

Hey @wiltshire-

Thanks for your reply! No, it would not keep you from selling the loaves in your checkout cart. You'll notice with Square that we will never prevent you from being able to make the sale based on your inventory in Point of Sale, even if you have no stock. The inventory count will just go to -1, or however many you've oversold.

It sounds like you've got this figured out, but please let me know if there's anything else I can help you out with! 🌟
