I get where you’re coming from! Right now, Square primarily processes debit transactions as “signature-based” rather than PIN debit, which means they run through the credit card networks (and unfortunately, that means credit card fees still apply). It’s been a big topic for a while, and a lot of sellers have asked for true PIN debit support, but so far, Square hasn’t rolled it out.
If PIN debit is a dealbreaker for your business, it might be worth reaching out to Square Support directly to see if there’s been any movement on this or if they have any workarounds that might help lower your processing costs.
