When inserting a card to start a new ticket, the "ticket name" is blacked out

At our bar, when a customer hands us their card to start a tab, the staff usually inserts the card into the chip reader in order to start a new ticket as the name gets filled into the "Ticket Name" box automatically. Recently, we've had about half of the cards pop up a black box where the name used to populate. This means our staff has to then go in and manually type in the customer's name for their tab..

Is this a bug or possibly the banks doing? Never had this happen and it seems to be occurring more and more frequently.

@EricMarshall ;

I think it is more a Bank thing.  Square would get the name from the Credit Card (bank), but I have noticed more that we are getting Visa, M/C, or Discover user instead of the name of card holder being auto populated.  I am thinking since we had this before that some Card types were shown with certain Banks while others had the Name of the customer, and now more and more are just showing the Visa, Discover wtc instead.  This is more from a Privacy setting you can set at your Bank.   I noticed I can do this under card settings with most of my credit cards to not send Name to merchants.   I am not sure of what the wording is for all the types of banks and credit cards out there.    I think in general people are getting tired of all the Spam and information that is available for marketing being spread online from security breeches.  Which is why more people like myself turn this off to keep their information private and safe.

Thanks for your reply - I figured it out!

When a new tab needs to be started, ring in their order then hit SAVE TICKET --> NEW TICKET and THEN insert the card. Formerly, we were able to hit save ticket and insert card without hitting that second button.

We also found that this occurs with debit cards (not credit cards) so it seems like a bank block of sorts.

Thank you for your insight @Candlestore

@EricMarshall Thanks for following up! It sounds like adjusting the workflow helps ensure the ticket name populates correctly.
