When I take telephone payments of £71.75 for my customers wishing to pay for their Remote Support Subcriptions by Debit or Credit card, I only receive £69.96. Using several percentage calculators Square's 2.5% fee should return me the sum of £70.
Why is this not so?
@Compbck If your total transaction amount is 71.75, then 2.5% of that is 1.79, leaving 69.96. Also, don't forget the swipe fee of 0.15, so the total Square should send you for this transaction is 69.81
Thanks for your input I knew nothing about a swipe fee as this refers to a telephone card input and not a card reader, hence no swipe involved. However, I have now adjusted my payment to £71.80 which gives me the correct total of £70 for the cost of a Remote subscription. I am currently looking at other companies who do not have hidden fees.
@CompbckThat fee is by no means hidden. You just missed it or didn't understand it. ALL card processing companies have swipe fees. They are something of a misnomer, and should probably be called something else. In this case, swipe should probably be something like "fixed" fee in addition to the variable percentage fee. But, you will not find a company like Square that doesn't charge a two-part fee -- a percentage plus a fixed fee. That IS the industry standard.
Here is the link to the Square fees help document.
Lastly, as you'll see in that help document, your fee should be 3.5% for 0.15. Since you are manually entering card information, this is a bigger risk and carries a higher fee. That, too, is industry standard, and is not hidden. You just need to read the documents that card companies provide to you when you sign up.
hi @Compbck If you look at your payments report, and drill down the details it might help you figure out the exact fees
