What causes this error message?

One of my customers received this error message trying to pay:

[HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request] {"errors":[{"category":"INVALID_REQUEST_ERROR","code":"EXPECTED_INTEGER","detail":"Expected an integer value.","field":"amount_money.amount"}]}

What would have caused this error?

What way was the customer paying when this happened? Via invoice?
