What are the steps to print sticky labels for a cafe order?

I've got an Square Register and a Star mPOP receipt printer & cashier running at the moment, would like to add the sticky label printer to better process the orders.

Just ain't sure about the whole printing process as after check out the receipt would have the full information of the ordering, but with the sticky label I only need the item ordered on it. Would I need to creat a new set/ticket in order to print it or will the system be smart enough to process both receipt printer and sticky label printer at the same time?

Is there a demonstration of how to utilize this new function? Thanks.

Hey @Tea_Stn_Bne thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Seller Community!

To answer your question, you can absolutely connect more than one printer to your Square Register and create unique settings for each printer station, including printing a single item per ticket.

You can view this Support Article which runs you through the steps to set up and print your sticky order labels. It also includes the recommended label printers to use alongside your Square Register.

Let me know if you have any further questions here.

Hi Laurie,

Thanks for your reply, I have now tested all steps and discovered new issues with the compatibility of the sticky label printer.

I need to print sticky labels for my bubble teas (40mm label per cup).

Although on your website it says it's compatible with 40mm, 58mm or 80mm (default), I couldn't find setting options allowing me to change it to 40mm.

All orders have now been printed out bigger than the sticky label (40mm) itself and unable to be read properly.

Under your "How to Print Item Labels", the last paragrah of the article "Compatible Paper Width" shows instructions of how to change the label width via Square Point of Sale app (iOS). However such options is not on the Square Register app (android) while your website clearly pointed out the printer is compatible with Register.

I have also seek solutions via your chat function, but because this is urgent (won't be able to run business without such essential function), if I don't get it sorted out by tomorrow I will have to unfortunately return all devices and seek other POS providers.

Hey @Tea_Stn_Bne,

I'm afraid we don't have a quick and simple solution for you here - if the instructions on the support page haven't helped, it's possible there may be settings on the printer itself that need changing. If you're using the Star Micronics TSP654IISK or Star Micronics TSP654SK, you'll need to refer to the manufacturer's instructions on how to change label sizes - you can find the listing for this printer on the Star Micronics website. Click "download manual" on the right hand side and you'll then need to enter the serial number of the printer to download the correct manual for your model.

You can also find support contacts for Star Micronics here. It looks like they have an Australian phone number, so that will be your best bet for further help in changing label or text size settings on your printer, if that's the issue.

With that said, I'd also recommend further troubleshooting with our support team to try and determine if the issue you're seeing is a Square settings issue or a printer settings issue. Square's Australian support team are available on 1800 760 137. Lines are open 9am-5pm, Mon-Fri AEST.

If you are able to resolve this one via either Square or Star Micronics support, please let us know - it may help other sellers who are seeing similar issues in the future.

Hi @Seamus ,

I have had similar issues to @Tea_Stn_Bne however I was able to configure the same printer to know that it was using the 40mm wide tape.

We have a Square Register and a couple iPads. When adding the printer to the iPad, it has a setting to allow for a 40mm roll, however the Register doesnt have this same setting so they print very differently depending on which device I send the order from.

I have an image to show the two different dockets, but it doesn't look like I am allowed to?

Hi @peter_pennylane thanks for sending through this example.

Our Support Article only appears to suggest that the paper size can be changed on iOS devices. If you've connected your iOS devices and the Square Register to the same printer, where you've changed the paper width from your iOS device, my guess is that this may be impacting the formatting of the order tickets sent from your Square Register.

Are you able to send through a screenshot of the printer settings from your iOS device and the Square Register?

Hi @Laurie_ , I suspect the same thing.

I hope there is a fix for this as we are struggling with this issue.

Attached are the two screens...

Thanks for sending these through @peter_pennylane!

Is there a reason you haven't enabled In-Person Order Tickets on the register? It looks like this is enabled on your iOS. Give this a go and see if that makes any difference at all!

At this stage, it might be worth trying to troubleshoot this with our Support Team over the phone so they can run some tests with you in real-time. You can call support on 1800 760 137 (Mon - Fri, 9 am - 5 pm Melbourne time).

If they're able to offer a solution here, please feel free to share this here as other sellers may find this information useful.

I disabled the In-Person Order Tickets on the Register this morning because it was printing black tickets and wasting lots of label paper.

I suppose I will have to call Support then. Are there any specialists in the area of printing labels with this printer. I'd prefer to speak with someone who has specific experience with this area.

We can appreciate that, @peter_pennylane!

Our Support Team are certainly capable of assisting with technical troubleshooting, specifically printer troubleshooting. They're able to take a closer look into your Square account and POS settings to try and identify the root cause of the issue you're experiencing.

You're welcome to post back into this thread to let us know how you went, and whether the issue was resolved or not. We'll keep an eye out here!

Hi @Laurie_

Unfortunately this has not been resolved yet. I have been discussing with the Star support team, but they have now directed it back to Square.

The way I see it, Square has created a 'tape width' setting in the iOS app but not in the Register software. Can the Register team please create this setting in Register? We need to be able to stick these labels on a small coffee cup.

Also, for both iOS and Register software, can they please reduce the header margin. As you can see in the above photos, the header margin is enormous.

At the moment, I have disabled this printer as it just wont work the way it should. It's a very expensive paperweight for now :(.

Hi all

We recently made the switch from light speed to square restaurants for many reasons and we love it!

However there is an area that requires immediate improvement. We use labels for customer orders. This helps work flow during peak times and for delivery orders, especially for modified orders.

Unfortunately the current solution with star printer and the large 80mm labels is not practical nor cost effect as the labels are expensive and to big.

is there any solutions anyone can share with me?

A couple of suggestions for square.

- Reduce the print space so that less paper is used

- allow us to change printing paper size so that we can use smaller labels

ideally we want labels just like chatime & Guzman. Which Reval POS offers this solution through compatible printers.

we are almost ready to begin expanding to more stores and need a fix ASAP. Otherwise we will be forced to move to another POS again.

Hey there, @Ahmed95,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience and feedback with us. We appreciate your time.

Currently, the option to adjust the paper roll and label width for your order labels is only available for iOS devices. Unfortunately, there seem to be several limitations within Square's Point of Sale settings when it comes to Android devices and we continue to pass this feedback on to our Product Team.

We have discussed this issue in a thread where we have provided links to support resources from both Square Support and Star Micronics. To keep the conversation organized, I have merged your post with this thread.

Please take some time to go through the comments here as you might find the answer to your question.
