We have created a second phone number in customers for mobile. Which one will it use for text msgs

We have two phone number fields in our customers directory and want to import from a previous system

We have created mobile number as well as the existing phone number

Which number will the appointment system use to send the SMS text confirmation message?

If it's only the inbuilt phone number field then I will need to rearrange my import.

Hey @GrantHarnett,

Thanks for reaching out.

If you're trying to import an existing customer directory from an existing system, note that you likely will not be able to upload this into Square's system - the spreadsheet will need to already be formatted correctly to successfully upload to Square's system, so you won't actually be able to import a spreadsheet with two phone number fields. What I suggest doing here is:

1) Create a single customer entry manually in your Square Customer Directory

2) Export your customer directory from Square - this will give you a spreadsheet with the correct formatting you need to upload back into Square's system

3) Copy and paste your customer info from your old directory spreadsheet to Square's. I'd advise pasting be done without formatting to ensure text formatting and copy/paste artefacts are not copied into Square's spreadsheet (these can cause upload issues)

4) You may still see errors when uploading this spreadsheet - usually the errors should let you know what row/column you need to fix. Errors may include things like symbols or formatting artefacts that are not able to be uploaded to Square's customer directory

In all honestly, this can be a really finicky system, though if you follow the above then this should help reduce upload issues.

In getting back to your original questions - Square's directory has a single phone number field, so I'd be using the mobile number there as much as possible to ensure your customers receive SMS notifications!

Hope this helps! Let me know if I've misunderstood anything.

Out of interest, how many customers are you importing, so I can get a sense of the scale?
