Virtual Terminal - Client Setup $0.00 fee?

Hello,

I had my first keyed charge dispute in 5 years of business and learned the hard way that square cannot dispute keyed charges due to EMV policy for keyed credit cards. I’m a private practice therapist and charge the cards remotely pursuant to my policy. I was informed that by using square virtual terminal I can challenge disputed charges and I always have my clients sign a credit card authorization prior to working with them.

I tested the square terminal by adding myself as a client and charging myself $1.00. I looked at my credit card and it showed up twice. Once it appeared “Square $0.00” and the second time as “Square*BizName* $1.00”.

Is it normal for the $0.00 to appear? Is this square just linking the credit card to the virtual terminal? I have some particular clients who will not be happy seeing 2 square charges on the day prior to their session.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this. Hopefully I can somehow avoid 2 charges appearing On my clients credit cards.

Thank You!

Hey @PBTC thanks for posting and welcome to the Seller Community! I'm so sorry about the EMV dispute, but am happy to hear you are working with the Square Terminal.

Having a $0 charge is pretty strange and shouldn't be an everyday occurrence. Are you able to test this again and see if it appears a second time?
