Verification Square account, adding money and the seller locations accounts

Hi everyone,

I need some urgent help with the following issues:

1- I have tried using my Mastercard to donate money to my nonprofit organization through the Square donation links connected to my Square checking account and debit card. However, all of my donation payments have failed. I'm concerned that our organization may not be accepting donations due to an error or something wrong with the Square donation links. Can anyone assist me with this?

2- I'm unable to add money from another Mastercard to my Square checking account and debit card. I would like to be able to add funds from any payment card to my Square debit card so I can make monthly payments of hundreds of dollars or more. Can someone please help me figure out how to add money to my Square checking account and debit card?

3- I initially thought using Square's checking account and debit card would be sufficient for me and my nonprofit organization, and I believed opening a traditional bank account was unnecessary. However, I have been told by others that Square is not a bank and only offers financial transaction services with a debit card but no credit card. They also said that our nonprofit organization should have an account with a traditional bank and obtain a credit card, which is not available through Square. Can someone confirm if this information is true and provide more details on this topic?

4- I am having trouble verifying my Square checking account with a well-known fundraising donations platform for eligible US nonprofit organizations. They initially requested a proof of account statement showing all numbers of the account number and routing number, but rejected my monthly bank account statement because it had hidden some digit numbers of the account number. After contacting Square support, they provided me with a verification letter for my Square accounts. However, the platform now requires a voided check with a bank formal document or letterhead. I'm unsure how to obtain this voided check. Can I get it from my Square application or should I reach out to Square support again? I need urgent assistance with this.

5- I have noticed that deposit tests from platforms like Google and Facebook have been successfully received in my Square account. However, when I try to donate to myself or my nonprofit organization using another Mastercard, the donation links do not accept my payments. I need guidance on why this is happening and how I can fix it to transfer money from my other Mastercard to my Square debit card. Alternatively, if someone can help me add money and utilize my Square debit card immediately, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all for your assistance in advance.

6- Should the Square seller locations accounts connected separately. I meant each seller account with specific mail account and specific location or not necessarily

7- Finally, Is a good practice to add my square account for obtaining grants and donations from other organizations, agencies, federal, state or any other parties or Preferred to add traditional bank account besides my square account or the square account is enough and SUFFICIENT and no need any traditional bank account please

Hi @Edward23

I am not too familar with NP Organizations entirely and how the work with Square exactly but I'll try and answer some of your questions.

1) Have you tried to contact the issuer of your Mastercard and seeing they flagged your account by chance and simply need you to verify that it was actually you who were attempting to make the transactions?  Additionally if you know someone that would be will to test out your links using one of their cards, this would be another way of verifying that your links are working.

2 & 3)  In my honest opinion, yes you should definitely have a traditional bank (brick and mortar) that you can open up a checking account with for your organization, ideally one as well that is associated with and works with SBA for potential future lending.  Bulling a good reputation with a local credi union or bank can help your Non profit in the future.  I have business checking accounts set up with 3 different banks.  Not that there is hundreds of thousands of dollars in there, but I like options.

As for "needing" a credit card for your organization that all comes down to personal preference. I'm not sure if Non-profits work like other business, but  there are only a handful of companies that will open up a business credit card without a personal guarantor.  and for the most part , you should expect a hard pull on your personal credit.  Square does not offer any credit cards at this point in time.

4)  If you were to open up an account with a local bank or credit union you would be able to order checks for your business if you so choose.  Square itself does not provide checks.  You can use a company like Deluxe which will provide "virtual" checks, and are able to be emailed or downloaded and printed.  You simply input all of your business details, checking and routing numbers etc.  I have used this option in the past since I rarely used checks, it was the best option for me.  I have used that type of check to provide the SBA in the past with no issues.

5) See #1.   This *may* have something to do with Squares TOS, and not being able to "pay" yourself with your own card to your own organisation in this matter.  While you are not paying and you are donating, there are other ways to donate to your business without funding with a card.  In order to transfer money you will need an external business bank account linked, then you will be able to transfer funds from your there into your Square account.

6) ?

7) Personally, I would add my local business bank account for any larger federal, state or other organizations.

In a nutshell, Square is a great tool to utilize to help you and your business, but in my opinion should not and it isn't at the point yet where it could be used as a sole "bank".  It is a financial company that provides payment  banking options provided but Sutton Bank, they are growing fast but are not there just yet.  I would not have all of my eggs in one basket as a business owner.  I would definitely recommend opening up a bank account that is local to you.  IF something goes wrong, you have the ability to stop in, drop off documentation and talk to someone face to face.   Once that is setup you can then link your external account to Square and transfer money between the two accounts.

I would definitely keep both, as you can then utilize many other options with Square to help your Non Profit grow including a Square online website, Payment links, marketing and more.

I hope that I was able to provide some information and clarification to your questions.
