US POS with Japanese square compatible accessories

I'm a US square user, but I am stationed in Japan. I know that none of the US credit card swipers work here because they are location locked. But i was wondering if I can use Japanese versions of mpop cash drawer/printer and epson tm-p20ii mobile printer with the US app. I use the POS to process cash sales.

To answer your question, For the mPOP (cash drawer + printer combo), Square does support mPOP in certain markets, including the US and Japan. Since you’re only using it to open the cash drawer and print receipts (not to process card transactions), it should work fine with your US Square POS app on iOS/Android. For the Epson TM-P20II mobile printer, Epson’s portable Bluetooth/LAN printers are also supported in Square POS. Even if you buy the Japanese version, as long as you pair it with your tablet/phone running the US Square app, it will print cash receipts normally.

Some limitations to keep in mind, (which it seems like you already know) you cannot take card payments in Japan using your US Square account, no matter what hardware you connect, card processing is restricted by region.

Cash sales will still log correctly in your US Square POS, and you can print receipts using compatible printers (mPOP or Epson).

If you ever decide you want to take card payments in Japan, you’d need to open a Square Japan account and use Japan-issued Square hardware.

So in summary, you can use Japanese versions of the mPOP and Epson TM-P20II with your US Square app for cash sales and receipt printing. But no Square card readers from either region will cross-work for payments.

Thank you. It does. I don't ever plan on using Square Japan readers, as you have to have a Japanese bank account and all mine are US.
