Trying to connect my star bluetooth printer to my Square for Restaurants Mobile POS Kit

I have 2  Square for Restaurants Mobile POS that uses the galaxy phones and the bluetooth readers. I am trying to connect to my bluetooth printers, but in the Square app, there are not seen. I have the printer connected on the device itself, but when I open the app, and try to create a new printer station, it does not appear.

There is no setup guide for the Square for Restaurants Mobile POS bluetooth printer that I can find.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Hey @Robbybabyrob!

I've just taken a look at Square Reader's compatible printers, while they are all Star branded printers I am unsure which model you are using to be able to provide any precise advice. From taking a read into it however the Bluetooth printer that connects to Square is compatible with iOS devices only, so maybe the galaxy phones are the issue?

I look forward to hearing from you with additional information.

If this response does however help, please do mark it as best answer to help others in the future.

Here's a list of compatible devices: https://squareup.com/shop/hardware/v2/gb/en/products/accessories?filter=for_chip_reader

Was this issue ever resolved ?

I spent over an hour with Star Micronics and well over an hour with Square support trying to get my Star TSP654IISK to show up in my printers on the hardware settings. My printer was connected to my iPad , showed up in my Bluetooth connections. When I opened Restaurant it couldn’t find printer. I couldn’t use “advance print setup” because it’s Bluetooth and doesn’t need an IP address. It prints the sample from Star Sk Utility but nothing can be found by Restaurant App. The Square tech suggested I connect on my phone and use Square POS. The printer still could not be found on my iPhone SQUARE APP.  I  sent this printer in for warranty check to see if all is well with printer.  Star Micronics tech support says they do  not have a square app to check out the compatibility issues 🤷‍♂️ They said printer is fine and changed the Bluetooth card.  I’m waiting on its return now to see if this fixed it so I can open.

@SnowballHeaven ;

Since you had the Printer connected by Bluetooth to your IPAD.

I would go into your Ipads Settings Forget the Bluetooth Printer connection.

Then go to your Square For Restaurants step for adding a Bluetooth Printer.

Basically the same steps Square gives you for troubleshooting the Bluetooth Card readers.

Here is the link to the Card readers trouble shooting.: 5673-square-contactless-and-chip-card-reader-troubleshooting

A Bluetooth device can only connect to one device at a time, and yes your Ipad is the Device but with the Square App, the App is counted as 1 Device and so is the Ipad.  It is confusing but I had the same issue with my Bluetooth printer at first.  I tried to connect it by Bluetooth to Two Stands.  This did not work and after deleting the Printer from Ipad settings and then Opening Square for Retail to install the Bluetooth Printer to 1 Stand that worked.  But I was only able to have it connected to the 1 STand so I realized I had to connect my printer by Network for multiple Ipad Stands to connect to my receipt printer.

Thanks.

Now that I know the printer is working I’ll go through all the steps again. Square Support had me do several things to no avail. They were the ones that said it must be printer instead of App. Star said it must be square app since the printer printed from Star utility app.

Was this ever resolved? I'm having the same issue. My ipad is connected via bluetooth, but when I open the Square App to search for a printer in Settings>Hardware>Printers, the printer will not show up.

I would Forget the Printer in the IOS settings.

Open the Square app.

Add the Printer Through Square Bluetooth not IOS for Bluetooth.

The big issue is Square because of security does not let your ios use bluetooth devises that Square is using.  I know thay are through the same physical device but if Ios installs Bluetooth Device, then Square cannot use it.  If Square installs it, there is a bridge setup in ios that connects the bluetooth device to Square.  So uninstall the Blue tooth device or forget it in ios, then add the print by Squares instruction for a bluetooth printer not Stars instructions.  That is where I was having issues at first.

Kinda like your Bluetooth Reader, if you connect it to IOS first by Bluetooth you won't find it at all in Square. So then you need to forget it in IOS, add it through Square, then it works fine.

I just tried this with my Bluetooth printer.  Ipad and an Android cell both see it as a Bluetooth Receipt printer.  When I try to connect my Square App on 3 different Ipads it sees nothing.  All 3 through IOS settings see it but Square does not see it to connect it on any of my Ipads.  Now let me state that currently my Receipt printer is a USB, Bluetooth, Network capable Star Printer and I have it connected by Network to connect 2 Ipads to it.  The third Ipad I use mainly for Inventory and some reports.  So something must have changed since I last hooked my Printer up by Bluetooth.
