Transactions are not being captured

Out of nowhere, Square stopped capturing our transactions. We've had zero internet issues, our two iPads and one handheld terminal have not shown that they're in 'offline mode'.

This all started happening when I added a handheld terminal and switched the two iPads and the handheld to Square for Restaurants yesterday morning.

I've talked with 6 support people over the last 2 days and eventually they had to individually capture each one of my sales so I wouldn't lose them.

Each time they capture everything they tell me that this problem will go away and there's no one to escalate this to, but it keeps happening.

We are a small business, every sale is critical and I don't have time to call Square at the end of each business day so that they can manually capture each of my sales. They don't have time for that either! Please help!

@LBB3 Of course, your other option would be to keep the setting as it is, and just remember to run the Close of Day after you close each night.  That’s entirely your choice.

Hey @LBB3 Been there.  Done that.  Burned at least two t-shirts!  Here’s the problem, followed by the solution.

There is a Restaurants setting that controls what is called the Closed Check Reopen Method.  It has two options.  The first (default) is to KEEP the customer’s payment method when a check is reopened.  This one requires you to run a Close of Day after you close every night to capture your transactions.  If you don’t they will automatically be captured in 36 hours.s

In my shop, we don’t need this “feature.” So, we use the “Reopen and Remove Payment Method.”  This causes Restaurants to immediately capture your payments.  The only drawback is that if you need to reopen a check to correct it, you would first need contact the customer to get their payment information again.

To change this setting, start at your Dashboard and go to Devices -> Service Settings -> Reopen Checks.  Change the method to “Reopen and Remove Payment Method” and Save.  All future transactions will be immediately captured as you want.

As for your transactions already closed for today, at the end of the day (from your Restaurants POS) click Account -> Run Close of Day.

This should fix you for today and going forward.

Let me know if you need anything else.
