Hi. 

I have been designing my website for the last day or so and I have done lots of sections. I have done lots of work for the past few hours and published it and i even seen all the work i did on the preview page. But on viewing my actual live website none of the work i did was on there.

 

Then a little box saying '

The editor requires an update
We're making some updates and need you to reload this page.
Reload'.
 
I pressed the X and it went away. I did some more work and then it reappeared. I pressed reload and all the work i did was gone. I started all over again and the box is appearing every few minutes. My internet is fine. Does anyone have any idea how i can fix this? I am on the free web design but want to update once i am happy with the web builder. I have tried my iPad too and the same issue is occurring. Is this something I can fix? Thanks. sq site error.png

I’ve just done some searching to fix the problem and came across a review saying that this occurs regularly. It is happening to me every few minutes so is really frustrating. Is there any solution?

This is the first time I've seen this particular error message. 

 

I've reached out to the Square Online team to see if they can provide some insight here, but while we wait to hear back from them could you run through some browser/device troubleshooting to rule that out? 

 

- Make sure that your browser is up to date. Here are instructions for how to do so for our supported desktop browsers: Chrome, Firefox and Safari.

- Clear the cache on your browser. Instructions for clearing your cache will vary depending on your browser. Accessing the Help menu on your browser should allow you to locate step-by-step instructions.

- Switch to a different browser: Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox. Double-check that you are running the most up-to-date version of these browsers.

 

I'll let you know once I know more.

Thank you for the info. I will have a go today. I thought it could just be my issue but then I read that review online that highlighted the exact same issue. Plus it did the same on my iPad so I was doubtful it was a browser issue (as I use chrome on my laptop and safari on my iPad). I love the platform so far so praying this is not a reoccurring issue as it’s quite frustrating to do lots of work and for it to them just disappear ☹️

Hi

Just wanted to add this has been happening to me for the last few months. It tends to pop up if i'm adding multiple phots or video files on information pages. The worst thing to do is to click the reload button as I had added quite a few new photos and text etc and I lost the lot.

Now I ignore it I don't even close by the X cross. I go straight to publish to try and save everything i've changed so far.

Then I exit out of the website section and go back into editing mode and do the rest of my changes. 

I have yet to fit a fix for it so I just leave it well alone.

Thank you for replying and confirming I’m not the only one. It’s still happening to me but not as regularly. Mostly in the evening. I have started to write any long paragraphs of text on MS work then copying and pasting them across in case it happens when I’m mid writing a section. Also publishing every few mins which is annoying. I don’t reload or touch x now but publish if it pops up and sometimes it saves but mostly it doesn’t so still regularly having to redo things. Are you on the free or paid website?

Yes I have learned not to change to much at the same time as its very annoying and disruptive. I just chalk it down to being one of thing I have to put up with 😢

Thank you for replying. Was just interested to see it paying might improve things.  Hopefully someone has a solution or the tech team can give some advice to why it happens. Puts me off paying that’s for sure. It’s not cheap to get a PayPal option on my site. And then to have simple problems like not being able to make changes workout constant reload messages. Will persevere for now. Thanks again.

Hi @VixMag and @OTCF - thanks for your insights and for your patience. 

 

The Square Online team let me know that when you see this particular error message it usually means that a new version of the editor has been released which may have changed how certain elements are configured or what capabilities exist. To negate any issues, reloading the browser will update the tool to the latest version and re-enable edits

 

I know you lost some edits along the way so I'm sorry for that I know it's less than ideal and I've passed this thread along to the product team so that we can look at future updates that will stop this from happening.

Thank you so much for getting back to me. It didn’t happen yesterday so hopefully I’m all up to date now. I will still keep doing what I’m doing to make sure I lose as little work as possible if it does happen again. It’s not really that it happens as a one off but more that when it starts to happen it pops up every few minutes for several hours. Once the page is reloaded the editor should be updated. It shouldn’t need to update every few minutes so must be some other problem. Anyway hopefully it’s all ok now or happens rarely. Thanks again. Vicki

I am seeing the same issue every few minutes and have lost work as well.  Surely the Square Online team isn't releasing a new version of the editor every few minutes throughout the entire day.

Yeah it is still happening to me too. Was fine for a week or so but yesterday started again. Everytime i tried to do anything it would pop up. Lost a lot of editing so i gave up. If it happens really frequently then give up and try the next day. It isn't worth the frustration. I cannot really complain as the free site builder is brilliant. I am finding it really user friendly etc. but i won't be paying a subscription because of this issue until it stops for at least a few weeks/a month.

This is still happening every 30 seconds. I can't stop it from happening. I stopped editing my website for a few weekas as it was so frustrating. I have started again the last few days and it is constant.  Surely something can be done? Or more advice be given?

I’m not sure why but the last few days it’s stopped happening to me. It was constant before. I took a few weeks break because it was getting too frustrating. It was happening everytime I added a new listing photo. I’m sure it will start again though.  Is there something you do when it happens more often?

This has been an ongoing issue for me.  It's preventing me from updating my site and it's very frustrating.  I've updated my browser, deleted my cookies, cache, all the things and it's still giving me the error.  Any updates?

This is happening to me too. Years ... still no fix? Or is square/weebly waiting for the community to fix their issue?

 

Just to be clear, this is a brand new site so clearly this is an issue (as most) with Square, not user error.

Yes, it’s ridiculous.  All I’m trying to do is take my view from 3 columns to 4 but every time I do, it gives me the error.  I can preview it correctly but then when I go to publish it, it’s back to the original view.  It’s terrible that something so simple can’t be fixed.
