Switch to newly developed site on third party domain

Having Created a Duplicate to make a lot of changes without affecting the live site ( also acts as a backup) I want to replace site A with the new site B. If site B has issues be able to go back to site A.

Whatever I do fails at the same point

Publish site B and it asks for the domain I own elswhere. Enter the domain name and I get " This domain is already connected to another Square Online site. Remove it from that site in order to proceed."

Support has given details that omitted anything about removing the current site A from the domain but I have tried that anyway and it makes no difference.

Has anyone successfully carried out this process and if so can explain how to do it.

What I do not want is to take the site down and it takes days to reinstate.

Something seems wrong.

Many thanks

Peter

Thanks for letting us know that you’re having trouble with this @peterfb1, and welcome to the community!

You mention that you’ve been unable to disconnect your domain from the current site, in order to free it up for use on the duplicate site you’ve created. When you follow the instructions here to disconnect, do you see an error message for example? If so, would you mind sharing it here please?

If you’re able to complete the steps without issue, and connect the domain to the new site, do keep in mind that it can take 24–48 hours to propagate.

Whilst the connection request is processing, you can still keep your current site live under a customisable subdomain, which you can learn more about here

I hope this helps, but if you do encounter any issues please just share the error and let me know the domain URL in question, and we can certainly take a closer look.

Thank you @Sineaid for replying but the process that is spread across a number of documents just does not appear to work.

48 hours to update a site ( say recovering to a previous backup as the new site is not working as intended) is just not acceptable.

I have tried to escalate and I am waiting for a fully documented process that can be tested on a subdomain before doing anything else. I expect someone in square to actually run through the full process to prove its viability otherwise it appears that you can never recover to a backup without totally taking a site off line and then starting from scratch on the process. How can any on-line business be expected to take their business off line for 2 days, that is bad for credibility, the site will lose google rankings as well, all detrimental to business.

I am havin the same issue, but a bit worse.  I have tried repeatedly, over the course of a few weeks, to disconnect and reconnect, but to no avail.

Has anyone ever solved this issue yet?  Weebly has stopped responding to inquiries for help.
