Square on a Windows 11 PC with a touch screen.

I have a seasonal job at a small community swimming pool. For years we have been using Square with a dedicated iPad.  We would like to automate several of our current, paper-based systems, by putting them on a PC with a remote touch screen.  Due to severe space constraints at our counter, we cannot have both a Square-dedicated monitor (i.e. iPad) and another for everything else, so our ideal arrangement involves a Windows 11 PC running Square and a separate touch screen.  If anyone has used this arrangement I would love to hear how effectively it works, quirks, and anything else which would be useful.  I am limited at the moment as to how much experimentation I can do, as I live in California and the pool is in Montana.  Thank you so much for any advice you have!

With a PC you do not get the same Checkout Screen you would get on an Ipad.  With a Windows PC you would use the Vertual Terminal.  If you have the Hardware (PC, and an Extra Touch screen) you could try this yourself.

Create a User account (team Member) for yourself with a Different Email address than you use to login as the account holder.  Then exit out of your Square Owner account and Log back in as the newly created team Member and see how this acts.

This is How you add a Team member :

8356-add-and-manage-team-members

When the Team member receives the Invite, they create a Square account to login to the POS and this is also their Email and Password to sign on through a PC.

Just make sure before adding Others you set up Team Permissions :

5822-employee-permissions

I am just not sure what Hardware would work with the PC for taking payments etc, but at least you can test the point of sale on a PC and see if the Touch Screen works for this.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for the response!  I've been able to successfully use Virtual Terminal to manage my (test) Square POS system, but have not yet gotten in to try to make a test "sale."  If the Virtual Terminal data resides entirely on a server within the Square landscape, I am speculating that I could access it from any client which has an approved browser.  This would include an iPad, Mac, or PC.  That would be an ideal setup, because then the hardware which we use at our location could stay in place, and we could perform the management activities using a laptop.

Been having some strange, though not insurmountable issues using the external touch-screen monitor with a laptop.  Thanks again, and I will update soon (I hope), when I've gotten a little further down the road.

You said "  I am speculating that I could access it from any client which has an approved browser.  This would include an iPad, Mac, or PC. "  You would need to complete the sale from the Vertual terminal on the windows based computer, after which you would be able to see the completed transaction on your other devices.  The Ipad you could see through an App or through the web browser.  Through the App you can use the Square Blueetooth Reader to accept credit cards, but I think because for Security reason you may not be able to use this through the web browser interface.

here is a thought, instead of using a windows based PC going through Virtual Terminal, you could use a Chrome Book and install the Square app, which would allow you to use the Bluetooth reader.  I have tried this and when I use the Square app it does connect to the Chromebook.  I just rather use the Square Stands at my store over the Chromebook.

But yes keep us informed and ask if you want to try something else, I like these challenges to give ideas to try new things.
