In the UK with the £100 chip and pin limit , there are more requests to enter PIN number rather than use contactless. In some shops now they will say, merchant requires you to input your PIN number. Square terminal just says declined which is a poor customer experience.
Also the Square terminal gives the same "beep of success" as it does of failure which is a little tedious as have to check every transaction. Isnt the Square terminal capable of producing different beeps or can it create a longer beep for declined/failure?
Are your development guys and girls onto this?

Nope - doesn't work that way. I get quite a lot of "Please insert card or try another" messages for contactless if the customer has reached the 'check' level of transactions (or spend - not totally sure what way round it works).
If your customs are getting the decline message then it would seem to be something else going on.
I was right, I confirmed with Square the 'decline' is a request for PIN (or any form of further verification) and to my original point I have noticed other retail have more informative messages on their PIN pads now.
I am sure you meant well but in your rush to be highly assertive (always be wary of people who start a sentence with No or Nope (see Myers Briggs 'ENTs')) a bit more teasing out the context or allowing someone else to step in would have saved me a lot of time.
thanks,
Hi there @LOG, thanks for your post.
As Sam mentioned it does seem like there's something off there as that's not how a transaction goes through. I would suggest getting in touch with our customer support team directly so they can take a look at the declines on your account if you are noticing there's a high rate.
With regard to the tone of the Terminal, I will take note of this feedback and pass it along to our product team for future updates and improvements.
thanks, ok, what I thought was a request for PIN is actually failure of some kind , the fact it works when they put their card is just it working on 2nd attempt.
it kind of makes sense, when it does fail the spinny thing seems to rotate for a longer period, must be a time out or something.
will monitor frequency and go and bother support team.
