I've been having these exact issues for three weeks now with my 2nd gen square stand. Have tried all of the troubleshooting steps from Square. We ended up using my phone with the mag stripe reader to process several hundred transactions last weekend which is super frustrating and frankly makes my business look like Amateur Hour. I haven't found an answer yet, but the lack of reliability when we're slammed with a huge line of customers is stressful beyond belief. I'd love to find a resolution to this issue that doesn't involve buying a whole new stand and iPad with no guarantee that will solve this.
@Emily_Adams The chip or tap reader is not working on the stand? iI so we had the exact same problem when we were using the stands. The only thing we could do was before inserting the iPad into the stand we would launch the Square POS, after it was up and running we would then insert it into the stand. That's the only work around we could figure out. We have since upgraded to the new handhelds and haven't had any problems.
