Square Register v Square Stand

Are you happy with Square Register if you switched from iPad + Stand?

I have been using a Stand for about 3 years and have found it to be excellent. However the iPad I use is much older and is struggling to handle the updates so it's time to move on. I am curious ton hear about seller's experiences with the Register v iPad + Stand. I note that is no repair option for the register but I am interested in your thoughts.

Cheers!

Hi @HevEv,

Good to see you back here in the Seller Community!

The Square Register comes with a limited, two year warranty, and as always, our team is available for troubleshooting. Although we don't currently have a repair option for the Register, separate accessories, like a replacement customer facing display, can be purchased. Hopefully some other sellers can share their experiences with the Square Stand and Register with you here, too.

We loved the Register until there was a major version upgrade (6 or so months ago) for both restaurants and retail versions.

The major issue we experienced was on the Restaurant version where speed and touch responsiveness slowed right down to the point it was majorly impacting the business. If you press a menu button it would take anywhere up to 10 seconds for the next screen / action to happen.

This was improved with version updates, however never resolved. We ended up switching back to iPads and they definitely leave Register for dead in terms of usability / speed.

Square Champion

Hi @HevEv,

We recently upgraded our basic reader system to the Square Stand and haven't looked back. We weighed up the Register (and even the Terminal), but we're running an appointments based business so the iPad app made more sense to us and ultimately drove our decision to go with the Stand.

Personally I love the look of Square Register (very sharp design!), but in terms of flexibility (we do a lot of our business management from our iPad — ie keep our books up to date in Xero etc), the iPad + Stand just made more sense for us.

I think Square Register makes a lot of sense in a multi station retail environment where you don't want your staff tinkering with other things (given its more locked down than an iPad that they could find distractions on!).

If you're a small business like us (where its literally just us working in the shop), the iPad + Stand is perfect — makes us look so much more professional than our trusty Reader and dodgey Amazon iPad stand we started with!
